Wheezing cough but not asthmatic

I've had a virus for the past week or so, started off as a sore throat, which hasn't really got any better, and a couple of days ago I've developed a cough.

Seems worse than a normal cough as it sounds what I think is wheezing, although I don't have asthma. Yesterday had a massive coughing fit and could not catch my breath and kept coughing until I turned red and eyes were watering.

I'm not sure about going to the GP because I'm worried they'll say it's just a virus and I'll feel like I'm wasting their time.

Apparently asthma can develop at any age, so just because you haven't had it in the past doesn't mean you won't develop it later.

The usual guideline is to go to the GP if you have had a cough for more than three weeks. It may be a virus, in which case antibiotics won't make any difference.

But if you're stuggling to breathe you need to go to your GP right away.
