Seeking positive stories for my BF

Hello, hope you can help me. I posted this in conception and pregnancy but I'm trying all possibilities

My Best Friend has met the chap of her dreams and they are settling down and getting wed. They would love to have a family together, however he had a vasectomy 18 years ago.

They have seen a consultant about reversing the operation but they say it can't be done. BF's DH2B is prepared to undergo the treatment where the sperm is removed directly from the testes to be used in the IVF.

I was wondering/hoping that anyone out there could pass on some positive stories where this treatment has resulted in a baby, particularly those where the vasectomy took place over 20 years ago.

Thanks in advance. I just want to give her some hope that this can be possible.

Hi. My cousin's husband had previously had a vasectomy when they god married, 2 years before and was told a reversal was not possible. They went for IVF treament withdrawing sperm directly from the testes, it was third time lucky for them, a lovely boy now age 3! Wether they get the sperm directly from the testes or wether it "comes!" out the natural way, I don't think it makes a difference, they just need some wrigglers! I wish them all the luck in the world, it has made my cousin's life complete and she would have paid a million for her DS

I know that the longer ago the vasectomy was done the lower the success rates with reversal, so at 18 years ago I would say there would be little/no chance.

Don't know about removing sperm from the testes. Sounds more likely to work though.

Cheers Riponali I have forwarded your reply to her to give her some hope.

DH2B is a special sort to consider undergoing that proceedure. I hope so much that they can have a DC of their own

One of my friends' dh had a vas 20 years ago - too much scarring to reverse, so they removed sperm directly. They now have two kids via IVF

Very possible, good luck to her!

Sperm continues to be produced, so should be possible.

ah....after a time there is a possibility the body thinks "S*D this" and stops so she is wary that may have happened.

It's fab to have a few RL positives to pass onto her tho

Hi - I replied to you on the conception thread. Our 3 year old DS is as a result of testicular sperm. And he's gorgeous!

Sperm continues to be produced after the vasectomy, it just can't get out, that's all. The sperm can be retrieved from different areas depending on circumstances eg, from the epididymis or the testicles. Most extreme process, if you like, is extraction via testicular biopsy.

Isn't science/medicine an amazing thing?

Good luck to your friend.
