Lump in groin area

JL2017 · 24/07/2017 20:45

I have had a bit of an odd pain in my groin area (actually the fold between top of thigh and bikini area). I investigated today and found a small ish pea sized flattish lump under the skin, it is not visible at all on the surface, no reddness etc. Doesn't really move under the skin, sort of feels 'attached'.

Anyone any ideas? I am going to the Docs on Friday anyway because have been having some mid cycle bleeding investigated (have had pelvic scan and smear, both clear) but I am still getting quite a bit of bleeding after sex and am now worried this lump might be related.

Anyone had anything similar? I did shave my bikini line last week BUT it feels too far inside to be an ingrowing hair (but hope that it is...)

Lonicera, where you feeling ill when you found it or did that come later? I feel absolutely fine today, have felt slightly run down the last few days (slight cold) but felt well today.

Yes I had this in the same place, I had Health Anxiety at the time so thought he worst but mine turned it to either be a cyst or ingrown hair as it went away on it's own after about a week. It was the same size and didn't move like yours however, i did tell myself if it wasn't gone after a week or two I'd get it checked so would definitely recommend the same to you. Probably 100% harmless but always better to be safe Flowers

I had a little lump that sounds like this. Turned out to be an ingrowing hair. Best to ask the doc when you see him/her Friday.

Sounds like a lymph node reacting to you feeling unwell. If it's moveable under the fingers, should be fine. Best to have a proper medical opinion though :) hope you're feeling better soon.

I agree that it sounds like an abscess, mine was a perianal abscess. It started off fairly painless. I ended up having to take weeks of antibiotics and then an operation (worst case)
I would definitely mention it when you are there, and watch out for it becoming painful/hot

I've had something similar twice now in the same place though but mine is further back near my bum. I think mine is some kind of abscess.

It feels like a bruise, slightly tender (mistook it for a lymph node at first) but then it popped and loads of funk came out (gross I know 😳) so assume that lymph nodes don't explode like that.

Mine flattened and I thought went away but two months later it's back again. Might have to give it a squeeze 🙈

Gunk not funk 😂

I started feeling fluey then noticed the lump. I lost half a stone in a week because I felt so unwell. The redness had started tracking up my abdomen as well.

Tanfastic, that sounds like an abscess, you should go and get antibiotics

I have a small pea sized lump on the left side bikini area mentioned it to the doctor at an appointment for something else he felt it and said it was actually part of my muscle feeling around that area my muscles do seem a bit bumpy. Perhaps I'm a strange one 😂

Is that pump painful Hannah? Mine hurts slightly when I walk (mainly upstairs) but I'm definitely aware of it. The thing is that is really far under the skin, not at surface level. Not sure if it's s lymph mode but checked other side and think it could be

I had this a few years ago, turned out to be a lymph node but I also had them in my neck.

Swollen lymph nodes are often caused by infections, I was tested for viruses (Epstein Barr, CMV), TB and toxoplasmosis. Also had to have a full STI screen due to enlarged nodes in the groin area. Nothing was found and I actually never found out what it was, it just went away after a few months on its own. I'd definitely go to the GP though, as swollen nodes can be caused by lots of things including malignancy.

Hi. It was a while ago like you when I walked upstairs or speed walked (late for school lol) if you have to really prod for it then it could be a lymph node. Lymph nodes can be felt though and that doesn't mean they're abnormal. I have a few in my neck that just haven't gone down fully they don't bother me now. If your legs hurting it's probably a pulled muscle especially if it's more so when you put weight on it

It might be a hernia.

I have had 4 lymph nodes in the inguinal area removed on 2 separate occasions, because they were very painful. They thought it was cancer the first time but the biopsies both times were ok.
It could also be a hernia.

Went to the Docs this morning in the end as also developed a weird sort of burning pain on my back (lower left side). I have no idea if it's related but have had shingles before so wondered if maybe it could be that and it's caused the lymph node to swell up too...

Anyway Doctor looked and said she doesn't think it's a henia, it is swollen and obviously painful but mobile and therefore not hugely concerning, come back if it gets worse / bigger. The weird back tingling thing is still there and sore but there's nothing they can do as no rash to indicate shingles so just need to wait and see I guess. Feel a bit like I am falling apart with all these unrelated symptoms!!

I feel like

Did she say if she thought it was a lymph node? Lymph nodes can get painful if they're fighting something. The lower back pain could be associated with a kidney infection also so keep an eye on your wee. Also you can an infection and not know you have it the lymph systems job is to fight infections before they make you ill or like I said you could have a kidney infection
