I'm wondering if anyone has any sage advice?!

I have an abscess in my groin that was huge when I saw GP last Monday.

I was given 2 weeks of flucloxicillen. 4x 500mg tablets a day for 14 days. Also told to continue with magnesium sulphate.

I've had some drainage of bloody fluid but no pus and although its shrunk you can still see dark bruised looking skin and the mag sulphate hasn't drawn anything for 4 days so I've stopped using it.

Last night I felt suddenly unwell and my temperature went from normal 36.4° to 39.6° in 5 minutes. I took temp every 1 minute as I could tell it was happening.

Paracetamol bought it back down to 37.2° after 30 minutes.

I've had to keep taking paracetamol as it keeps spiking suddenly. I can feel it in my face and feel the heat radiating from my body.

I'm wondering if that could be the antibiotics finally penetrating the deep bits of infection or whether i need to see the GP again?

I'll post pics for all you spooners!

How far into your antibiotic course are you?

0/10 for photo Wink

I'd be inclined to ring the gp and ask.

I'm on day 8 of a 14 day course.

It looks so much better but from google what I've learnt the drainage I've had is from the outside and so I'm thinking the antibiotics are possibly getting into the deeper bits now?

Google from what I know it's very hard for the antibiotics to penetrate an established abscess wall.

If you have a temperature with an abscess it needs surgical drainage asap. A&E or OOH tonight.
