Why does my foot hurt, suddenly??

I haven't hurt my foot in any way, but a few days ago, it started hurting and feeling really sore when I walked. The pain is only when I walk - in the middle of my foot, and across the top. It's visibly slightly swollen, but not MASSIVELY swollen. It's not painful to the touch, it's not red or brusised, and it doesn't feel hot.

I live in ballet pumps, and last weekend I got a new pair which I wore for 3 days in a row. Then this. Did the shoes cause this? In just one of my feet..?

My doctors surgery is a nightmare to get an appointment, and I can't really afford the £48 for a podiatry appointment. So what should I do to treat this at home? I have a free weekend and can happily loll about and rest it -- should please give me any at-home remedies I can try. If it's not better by Tuesday, I can hobble along to the sit&wait clinic.

Thanks!

I think it could be caused by wearing unsupported shoes.

I'd try wearing running shoes with good arch support. I have friends who suffer from plantar fasciitis. They were advised to do calf stretches, roll a wooden cylinder under your foot. She made some for us all from cutting broom handles and sanding them down. Orthotics in your shoes as well.

It could be a stress fracture.

I had this when I stopped wearing my running shoes as often and moved to converse trainers. It's your ligaments I think. It's very painful.

It's probably tendonitis.

Thank you! You're all really helpful.

@jinglebells99: that sounds exactly like it, except this is in the middle of my foot, near the front, not the heel. But I will try the stretches and the rolling as I think that'd help.

@cremefresh - Yikes! How do people get those? And how do I get it better?

@ineedamoreadultierlife Poor you. :( How did you fix it?

@fannydaggerz I googled tendonitis, it could be that. But I kind of hope not as it says it can take MONTHS to heal. :(

Probably the shoes. A while ago I bought Primark slippers which were quite wide. I wore them around the house and the next day I had excruciating pain in my foot. Goodness why one foot when I've got 2 feet and had a slipper on each one. I took paracetamol and ibuprofen and threw the slippers out.

Thanks! @troysmammy Must be the shoes then. Ok, thanks. I'll see it as the best excuse EVER to have a weekend of Netflix and bedrest. :)
