Snoopy10 · 02/06/2017 21:45

Just got my period again 10 days after my last one finished. This has never happened before - up to date on smear 6 months ago - all good. Usually 28 days exactly and had baby 3 years ago naturally conceived if that useful information. Definitely not pregnant so I am at a loss as to why - no usual build up just came out of nowhere. Bit scared. Anyone had this happen? Thanks in advance for any replies.

I had this happen a few years ago. I Googled, which was a mistake - don't Google! I wasn't pregnant, had normal smear, everything else otherwise healthy, periods usually like clockwork. It did worry me but I was fine. According to GP just a weird thing that sometimes happens. Not happened since.

If you're particularly worried make and appointment with your GP, but mine turned out to be absolutely nothing other than an irregular period.

Dear lemonredwood thank you so much for your reassurance. That is very good to hear. I have booked a gp appt just in case but your message is very comforting. Why do these things always happen on a weekend! X

How old are you?

I'm 41 and just had the same thing. Periods usually monthly but this month mine came two weeks after the last one so thought it would be another month but nope two weeks later I've started my period again!

Mine could be age related apparently. Blush I don't mind if it is the menopause as have had my children and have had enough periods thank you. I just wish I knew what was going on.

Thanks for replying unicorn- I'm 44 so good point although I had blood tests done a year ago and was told not peri menopausal but got migraines for the first time in my life after I finished breastfeeding dc year and a half ago. Maybe I should ask gp on Monday about this Spode it has been a year. Will let you know what she says. Sorry you are going through this - how rubbish to have them that often. What is going on!!! Why do I get the feeling that there is no silver lining to menopause (apart from hair colour) just a massive explosion of crapola rather like the end of an angry firework display. Periods couldn't just stop, oh no, that would be to easy for women, hot sweats, headaches, mood swings, aching joints and extra periods hahaha - why!!!!! Sorry for rant. Feeling less panicked now - thanks for the camaraderie :) xxx

Omg!! Achey joints a sign of menopause? I've been achey for weeks and not able to shift it. I've been blaming it on exercise but I'm not that unfit that I still ache two days after a yoga class. It's constant.

I've always been moody Blush but I'm
Definitely snappier than usual.

Great. How long does it last? Dd just turned 11 and started her period. I was at least 13 before mine started. Menopause over and done with would be good as two moody pmt women in the same house is not a good idea.

Hope you find out what's going on and it's nothing serious.

The blood tests are only a snapshot of hormones that particular moment, so they're not definitive for peri menopause. There's gazillions of symptoms but mine was periods all over the place and from barely anything to a hose, hideous mood swings, sweating badly at night which slowly morphed into hot flushes and palpitations.

Yeah, it's brilliant fun. I went into peri at ago 41. I'm 50 in August. Yay. (Grin)

Hyper-ovulation? Releasing an egg from both sides, so a full cycle but with a staggered start? I blame this for my twins!

You need to ask for blood tests. Could be early menopause. I was 37. Devastated that I couldn't have any more babies but yay! no more periods Smile

I'm younger..early 30's now but had this a few years ago...period every 2 weeks for about 3 months. It happened just after my mother was diagnosed with cancer. I was also just trying to conceive for the first time. Periods like clockwork all my life then this just when I needed them to be regular! Anyway all settled down and got pregnant once they became regular again.
So for me it was definitely stress related. Was such an eye opener for me about the impact stress has on our bodies!
So are you particularly stressed at the moment? Or as above posters have said could be start of menopause or just a once of blip Smile

You are the same age as me op and the last few months my periods have become closer together. Not every ten days but from 29 days to 25. Been like this last three months. I'm assuming it's peri menopause.

Glad this thread popped up this morning - my periods have been going a little crazy and getting shorter since I had my mirena coil removed earlier this year.
Since removal my cycle has been:
21 days
23 days
27 days
22 days
26 days

I'm 38 and have had 3 kids (youngest nearly 6), I'm religious about timely smear tests and also had an internal scan just before having mirena removed and all apparently looking fine.

As a result of my changing cycle I now track everything using the 'flo' app. From ovulation pain to sore breasts to cramping to mood swings, its excellent at predicting when your next period will be based on your tracking symptoms, which is handy when you're slightly clueless due to a shortening / changing cycle.

Just to add, have just come on today....23 days Hmm. I'm hoping at some point they will become longer.

So spoke to doc - Monkey29 she said stress too. So sorry to hear about your mum that must have been awful and yes trying to convince adds stress too doesn't it. There are a few large life events which have all conspired to happen at once so it may be this. I don't have night sweats except when having period but when I asked about this she said some people get that and it could just be things have changed since having the baby. Apparently the fact that I have recently had antibiotics may have contributed too. Hyper ovulation! Sounds like Star Trek hehe - I have had blood tests to check for peri menopause privately but as, until this week, everything like clockwork and fertility normal - i.e. Not for age - babies come late historically in my family - grandmother had dad in her mid forties- grandparents lived well into nineties - just got to monitor it all apparently. When I was worried about second pregnancy in my forties the specialist I saw (who did the blood tests) explained that menopause doesn't just happen in a straight line - so maybe it is that. I think it is so confusing!!!! Sometimes I think it must be just great to be a bloke! My DH said the other day that there is a downside - he is tall enough to see dust on the top of cupboards. WTF boohoo hahaha - excuse the hysteria (apt word) it's my hormones. Xxx

I think there is a lot of misunderstanding about cycles; regular cycles are not the norm for most women. Mine used to vary by 3-5 days every month and evidently very few women have 28 day cycles.

At 44 you are very likely to be heading into peri menopause. As a PP said one blood test shows nothing- just your hormones on that day.
Menopause is from age 45- 55 and can take 10 years of gradual slowing down of cycles or shorter cycles. I really wouldn't worry.

I've just come across this post too as I've been very worried. My period started last Monday and ended as usual around 6 or 7 days later then on Monday I noticed a little blood when I wiped which I assumed was just residual from my period but by Tue it had got a little heavier and by Wed it's now a proper period and I've been bleeding like a period ever since. It's now Friday and it's still like I'm on my period. I saw doc yesterday who thinks it's hormonal or maybe an infection. I'm due a smear but doc says I can't have smear until I stop bleeding. I'm so worriedSad I've never had anything like this happen before and im 43 years old. Ive now convinced myself it's something bad. I'm worried sick.

Hever it sounds very much like yours may be due to ovulation as day 13 would be mid cycle. I've had slight bleeding around that time quite a few times in the past and doctor told me that's normal to happen when it's ovulation time. I hope all goes well for you at the doctors on Mon x

Okay, so I found you all because I am not really worried but my bosses are here in Japan.
I had my period start the 12th of September spotting then full blown on the 17th. I was on the Depo shot for like 14yrs. But a year and half ago stopped, because couldn’t afford it any longer. Then my period came back but only lasted 3 days and this last time it last until the 26th of September. Now it’s October 9th started a bit of cramping and went to the bathroom saw a little blood. I’m like wtf?! I just got done with my period! I don’t know family history because I was adopted and then in foster care. I have had one child back in 1996. Not married or even sexually active. I am 42yrs old and really don’t want to go see the gynecologist. Can I hold off from going or should I worry and go. It’s not cheap.

So glad I came across this post. I finished my period 10 days ago. And this morning had a bit of brown discharge, the pink when wiping, Ive now has to put a full pad on and dark red blood!! Feel so worried I’m 35 so not at a menopausal age. My daughters 12 and been very regular since. I I’d pne episode back in July where I had a week of discharge following my period - but nothing as heavy as this!! I have been suffering really bad with aniexty. I’m hoping it’s jist that. How did you all get in? Did it stop?

I had the same after having a baby. Used to have very long and heavy periods every couple of weeks. It was a hormone imbalance, I put up with it for ages, then had a referral to a gynaecologist who put me on a short course of pills after which I got back to normal. I wished I'd done it before! I felt marvellous in a very short while, like a phoenix rising from the ashes.

We humans are complex aren't we?

Hope your problem is sorted soon.
