Painful ears with sharp stabbing pain

For the last few days I've had problems with my ears - today they're definitely worse.

They're muffled like with cotton wool shoved in them, swallowing is an effort (not painful though) and I keep getting sharp, stabby pains in the inside of my ears.

Is there anything over the counter anyone would recommend (and that I could take whilst being pregnant?)

Before anyone says, see the pharmacist, I will but I'd rather not have to drive whilst feeling so rubbish only to be told to see a GP - that I am still trying to get through to.

Thank you.

Hi - am not a Dr but could it be tonsillitis? Have you checked the size of your tonsils? Only suggesting as this is exactly what I had last week, and I only went to see DR after I started going deaf and getting sharp shabby pains in my left ear - turns out my left tonsil was enormous and this was also causing the ear pain (although swallowing was also painful and you've said you don't have this). Also exacerbated by the fact I get a lot of wax build up in both ears. Would suggest a Dr's appointment to be honest. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi @GreenFingersWouldBeHandy. My throat doesn't have anything on it - like no lumps or white stuff. Swallowing doesn't hurt but it takes an effort.

No GP appointment today and no out of hours appointments left - can't go to the extended surgery as they don't have a prescribing nurse available. Hopefully will get seen tomorrow as ears are ringing now.

Thank you :)

My tonsils didn't have any white spots either. But hopefully you will get seen tomorrow and sorted out. Smile

@GreenFingersWouldBeHandy I think I have this. How did you get rid of it??
