Terrified. Hand hold?

On Sunday last week, I started to feel unwell at work. Collapsed on Monday at work. Diagnosed measles on Wednesday. In isolation ever since. Worse and worse. No cure just IV paracetamol and anti sickness meds. Can't speak or even swallow own saliva. Have not really eaten in a week. Doctor says my liver is being damaged by the measles too. Had a scan. She says when the measles runs its course, liver will repair. Have never been in so much pain. They have said because I'm not eating I will need to be fed through a tube and maybe go to itu. I have read up on TPN (fed through a vein) and am very scared. I don't know what to do. I asked if I'd die and she said "I don't think so". I'm so so scared.

Sorry that you're poorly. You are in the right place however and I'm sure you will be fine. Had you not been vaccinated against measles?

Sorry you're feeling so poorly. Hopefully you'll be feeling better really soon.

This goes to show that measles isn't just some childhood minor illness - parents who don't immunise (either through MMR or separate jabs) put people's lives at risk.

Hand hold and gentle hugs. It will get better (step away from Google) xxx

Poor you. Sounds really scary. Dont worry about the TPN, they'll just put a canula in and you'll receive the nutrients through a drip. You're in the right place so try not to imagine bad things.

Can I ask if you were immunised against measles in childhood? I never got my final jab for MMR in university because I was too scared of the needle.

Thank you. Just woke up. Having to have some morphine before I try to eat. They're giving it one more day before resorting to TPN.

Apparently in the 70s there was some sort of panic about the measles vaccine and it causing problems if you had epilepsy in your family. My Nan had epilepsy so mum never vacced us against measles. I've vacccinated all 3 of my kids against everything, I'm so pro vac.

All of the build up soups/fortishakes are revolting.

Gentle hugs again.

What about milkshakes? If you could have a cold one it might help soothe and would give you some nutrition.

Oh poor you, that sounds so hard. Is there a reason why they can't try enteral feeding (a tube in your nose to your stomach and liquid feeding) before they go to TPN (feeding straight into your veins)? It would be much better if you could avoid TPN.

You must be so sore, it really is a good reminder that measles isn't a kiddy illness.

Me on TPN 2015. I was scared stiff beforehand, but it was a breeze, only took 15 mins. Would much rather have that done again than a nasogastric tube put in.

Poor you .Please try not to worry about TPN .Please also bear in mind that morphine often messes with your head - you might find it makes you imagine things /feel paranoid .

Dont want to scare you even more but best to be warned - I thought I was loosing my mind !

You will get well Flowers

That sucks, OP. I hope this passes quickly.
I had a canula just for fluids when I was in hospital. Hated it, but if you feel bad enough it's not so hard to put up with. Hang in there. x
