Hi everyone,
I think it's important to mention that I am pregnant.
Today I've woken up with an extremely sore throat, and a purple tongue?!?!
It hurts to swallow, my throats feels swollen and itchy. Also very white at the back of the throat. I have a few raised spots at the back of my tongue also.
For the last week I've noticed some of my teeth thinning out, and turning 'clear'. Nothing has changed within the week. My oral care involves brushing twice a day, using dental floss, using mouthwash, and I also use a tongue cleaner. None of this seems to be helping, as it just appears as though I don't even brush my teeth. My breathe also really smells, prior to the sore throat arriving.
Does anyone have any advice for me? I'm more worried about the purple tongue, as I've never heard of this before.
My GP usually have a wait of 3 weeks for an appointment, and I doubt they'd see me as an emergency tomorrow? They close on weekends.
Also my local dentist have no space for new patients, and I've been trying to get hold of the other local one for 2 days with no luck.
I feel a little stuck with what to do now, and I'm worried about if any of these symptoms could be affecting my unborn baby. I've read online that thin clear teeth could be due to lack of calcium, however I do eat a lot of cheese during the day, so thinking perhaps a deficiency of some sort?!
Would really love some advice, thank you.

You should probably go and see a doctor and not postpone it, it doesn't sound too good with a purple tongue. I googled and came across really many possible causes, lack of vitamin B being one, with the treatment "oral supplements". But it says on Google it can also be bad circulation.

However, consulting Dr. Google is never a good idea, so you should go and see a real one, I think. From a quick Google, I don't think it has anything to do with flossing or the dentist.

You don't happen to have celiac disease, do you? (Hidden or known). I know someone who had a severe vitamin B deficiency and was treated with oral supplements, but it proved to be gluten intolerance. I consulted Dr. Google a bit more and according to Dr. Google there might be a connection between celiac disease, translucent teeth, and vitamin B deficiency. The person I knew recovered fully but cannot eat things with gluten. If you have it, there might be a period where you come off both milk products and gluten, while you recover and it's a bit tough.

There's also a connection between celiac and bad breath: www.celiac.com/gluten-free/topic/32936-really-really-foul-breath-post-glutening/

Don't forget to write back with what you've decided to do. Maybe go and see a doctor now and ask for advice and possibly supplement. I once bought a SELFCheck Coeliac (gluten intolerance)Test (like the one on the LloydsPharmacy web page) - didn't have it myself though - but that is a simple way of testing it now, on a Sunday.

Thank you everyone for your replies, it's really appreciated. I called 111 for a bit of advice too, however they were a bit stumped by the symptoms. I've been told to call my GP in the morning for an appointment, as it's not an emergency so no need to see a doctor today. Which is reassuring, but makes me worried that they aren't sure about the symptoms.
It's usually quite hard to get though to my GP in the morning, so I shall get there as it opens rather than calling them. The purple on my tongue seems to be fading a little, and is being replaced by a dark brown colour. Very strange.
Thank you for the information about celiac disease, and coeliac, I will have a read. I do have a long term controlled autoimmune disease, although I can imagine they will want to run some more tests on it. I also have long suspected I have a touch of IBS, but not enough evidence for the GP to diagnose it.
I will post again once I've seen my doctor, hopefully tomorrow!

You could order that package online if you want to test it tomorrow. The doctor will run proper tests through a lab, though. I consulted Dr. Google a bit more and found that sardines/mackerel contain vitamin B so it might be a good idea to have it for lunch, if it is a vitamin B deficiency you've caught. Don't think you should experiment with vitamin supplements before seeing a proper doctor (and him/her taking blood tests) but remember I'm business administrator and really have no idea about these things apart from what I've been looking up on internet, over the years. It's easier to get a second autoimmune disease if you've already got one, or so I've read. I read an article in 2009 (which I have on my laptop still) and it says that untreated celiac disease may trigger other autoimmune disease. They mention in the article a reference to "Dieterich W, Ehnis T, Bauer M,
Donner P, Volta U, Riecken EO, et al. Identification of tissue transglutaminase as the autoantigen of celiac disease. Nat Med. 1997;3:797-801."

Here's an interesting link too, to NHS. www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Coeliac-disease/Pages/Causes.aspx
If you have it, perhaps it's the stress of being pregnant (hormones etc.) that may have a role to play. Here's another that says that IBS is a common misdiagnosis for coeliac disease: www.coeliac.org.uk/healthcare-professionals/diagnosis/irritable-bowel-syndrome-ibs/
