My period is always two days late

Namechanger2017 · 24/04/2017 21:53

I have an app which tracks my period, tells me when it's due, etc. Every month, my period is late by exactly two days. So my cycle is lasting 30 days, rather than the 'normal' 28 days. I'm not on any drugs/pills.

Is this 'normal'? Or should I see the doctor?

On a side note, I've noticed that my period has become lighter over the past year. Is this normal with age? I'm 30, no kids.

So you have a 30 day cycle? Perfectly normal.

I used to have a 32 day cycle. Then I had a baby and it changed to a 27 day cycle, which was Most Disappointing.

28 days is just average, not everyone has a cycle that length.

Your period is not two days late - you just have a 30 day cycle!

28 isn't normal, it's just an average. So some will have a shorter cycle, others longer. Mine's around 32 days.
I don't know what app you are using - I use Clue for period tracking and it tells you when your next period is due based on how long your previous cycles were .

100% normal. I think anything between about 26 and 35 days falls into the normal range.

As pp said, 28 days is average, not normal. 30 days is standard.

I have a 23 day cycle. it's been that for about 20years.

Lucky me! So many sodding periods!

Perfectly normal. Get a better app!

Total normal. It probably means that you ovulate slightly later in your cycle than the expected 14th day.

Get an app where you can enter your own 30 day cycle, I think Ladytimer lets you override to set it to your own cycle :)

Lucky you! I have a 21 day cycle, very boring!

You've been having periods for perhaps seventeen or eighteen years now. Did it not occur to you that your period is regular, not late? Hmm

The problem isn't your period, it's the app! It must have been written by someone with no understanding of menstruation. Just as an FYI I use this one which has lots of features and also cheerily pops up a notification to tell me my period is due in 2 days. Like I'm supposed to go 'oh whoopee, thanks for letting me know!'.

Mine varies between 27 and 30, so it predicts it at 29.

Perfectly normal. My cycle has been 30 days for 30 years lol. One of the the first things they ask you when you think you are pregnant is 'how long is your cycle?' So no, your period is never late lol. It's always bang on time. I thought you meant your cycle was getting two days longer each time, and I was thinking how fabulous that would be... I am slightly tickled by the app though. Surely it has a setting where you can actually change the cycle length to match your own? If not it's a really crap app and was undoubtedly designed by a man...

Thanks for the replies. It's good to know that I'm 'normal'!

The app I have been using is called 'period log',but I will try some of the other apps mentioned! Smile

I have a 40 day cycle.

It still surprises me every month Grin

Is it this one, OP? In the screenshots it shows someone with variable cycles between about 29 and 31 days, so it would imply that the app does cope with cycles that aren't 28. Have you looked in Settings?

However, the app should work it out for you, not leave it to you to calculate and adjust.

Goodness how did women manage before apps Confused

Honestly! What's wrong with a calendar or even just counting the weeks? 30 days is almost a full calendar month so it's not rocket science to think 1 April- then next one roughly 1 May.

Heh. I use Clue and it's been helpful in showing I finally have a 40-60 day cycle with phases of pain before bleeds and mood swings up and down. The app emails me every few months to warn that I have an unpredictable cycle, should definitely not rely on the rhythm method, and suggests discussing PCOS with my doctor.

And annoyingly tells me I'm about to get PMS just after I've got it.

You. Are. Totally. Normal.

Stop looking for problems where there are none. You'll drive yourself crazy.

The only time I've ever had a regular cycle is when I was on the pill. I use Clue to track mine (mainly because I was hoping it might show perimenopausal signs). In the last year I've varied from 15 to 37 days. Lucky I'm neither trying for nor actively avoiding pregnancy (dh has had the snip) so cycle tracking doesn't really matter except for taking me by surprise when it's really short.

I also tracked as a teenager, mainly to show my mother that I wasn't being careless with staining, I really had no idea when my periods were likely (DM had a regular as clockwork 31 day cycle).

OP be happy with your slightly longer than average regular cycle :)

Perfectly normal. I also have a 30 day cycle.

I remember a doctor telling me when I was younger (pre-kids, but into adulthood) that my 30 day cycle was an indicator of PCOS. Hmm Despite me having literally no other signs of PCOS aside from mild hormonal acne... Twat.

It's completely normal.
