Hi all,
I've just been diagnosed as anaemic and will be starting prescription strength iron supplements next week. Not sure on cause yet, but i suspect long term omeprazole use and therefore low iron absorbtion.
I'm reading up on dietary iron and am confused. So women of my age need 14.8mg iron per day according to NHS. But we presumably don't absorb 100% of the iron from our food (?). Does anyone know how much iron we should be trying to eat in order absorb as much as we need? Or is the 14.8mg how much we eat and eating that amount means you're likely absorbing enough??
So confused! TIA!
