I have coughed a few of these up - I'm very unwell with my cough. Is this just some weird mucus? Wondering if I have a chest infection as I am very poorly today. Can't get a docs appt today.

Do you have bronchitis? I THINK it is mucus that gets stuck in the bronchial bits in you lungs?

Look up Ascaris lumbricoides (Round worm)

Hope the doctor can help, keep the tissue

It looks like you might have an infection. If your GP can't see you today, you could see what your Pharmacy can give you to make you feel better while you're waiting for your GP appointment.

If you haven't been well enough to eat for four days and have coughed up what looks like a worm then you need to seek RL medical help.

Muttrat I do think I have bronchitis, yes (now I've read the symptoms) and I now think what I've coughed up could be mucus that was stuck in the tubes. Technical term there! From what I've read they're more common in asthma sufferers but I don't have asthma.

I can get a docs appointment first thing in the morning so if I still can't eat I'll call and go in tomorrow.

I definitely don't think it was an actual worm or anything - it was definitely like mucus texture but I will show the doc the pic if I go tomorrow.

Just thought I'd better update in case anyone comes across this later! Went to the walk-in centre yesterday, doc confirmed I do have a chest infection (almost certainly bronchitis) and the horrible wormy mucus is what is basically getting stuck in the bronchioles (I think that's the part he said!) and is quite normal although more common in asthmatics (I am not asthmatic). I have been prescribed some antibiotics so it's all good.

Looks like a bronchial cast (fairly safe to google I think)
Definitely worth seeing your Dr.
Hope you're better soon

I wanted to know if this did end up turning into asthma or not? I have had a cough since March 11th at the end of March on two different days I coughed up the same thing from your pic. It’s now May 11th and I’m still have my cough.

Hi. I was just wondering if you ever went to the doctor and if they figured out what that was because I have been coughing up the same thing.

Hello @Mommyoftwins420 I saw your PM which brought me here.
The stuff in the picture was dry mucus that was trapped in the bronchioles due to a bad chest infection (bronchitis). The doc said it was more common in asthmatics, I don’t have asthma and after my chest infection cleared up I was short of breath for a good few weeks then back to normal.
Could you get to a walk in centre?
Are you feeling unwell generally?
When I had this chest infection I was very unwell and there was no break in the coughing whatsoever for weeks, it was a pretty brutal one, I’m guessing the amount of dried mucus in my lungs didn’t help! But even if you’re not too unwell I think getting checked over would be the best thing.

@Jarosz5
Hi there, I’m so sorry I have only seen your post today.
Mine didn’t become asthma or anything luckily, it was a chest infection that cleared up.
If you’ve had a cough for a couple of months I would definitely see your doctor in case it could be due to asthma, I know several people diagnosed with asthma as adults.

I think the fact this was in 2017 would indicate it’s not still ongoing

I'm using an antibiotic called TRISUL. It's the only antibiotic that keeps it at bay but it's still not a solution for me as with covid now I can't contain my cough when it's triggered. And I notice it's triggered by the rain
