Degenerating fibroid

I have two very large fibroids and I'm due for a hysterectomy sometime soon.
Apart from the bleeding I've been pretty much ok.
I've been on esmya since Nov.
Since Thursday I've had the most horrendous contraction like pains and saw my GP this morning, who has suggested it's probably a degenerating fibroid and I've got painkillers.
He's faxed a letter to my consultant in the hope of bringing my operation forward too.
I wondered if anyone had any experience of this?
Thanks in advance
