holy f*ckballs I burned my hand and the pain is killing me - any tips?

like the moron I am, I managed to stick my hand on the hob today and burnt the ever-living feck out of it. Second degree burn I think - it's blistering. All over my palm. Pain has been unbearable for a good 8 hours now and I have to keep my hand in a jar of cold water. Anybody been in the same boat? Any tips? How long will it feel this bad?

Have taken paracetamol and applied what appears to be the world's most ineffectual burn ointment. had a small glass of port to dull things but I'm pg so shouldn't have another. DH says I need to stop cooling it and face the pain for a while, he thinks that'll improve it. I tried for 6 mins though and it was AGONY.

god I'm so shit at dealing with pain. No idea why I've let myself in for another labour...

I think you should see a doctor. Burns on the hand that sort of size should be looked at!

A&e. Minor burns like those you get from catching a finger on an iron or straightener usually hurt for an hour or so, if this happened ages ago you need to go and get it seen to. Don't use ointment or anything else now, it probably needs dressing and covering.

Hands need medical attention and dressing. I burnt my thumb and it was stinging for a week.

Go to the hospital now. This happened to me when I was pregnant and I collapsed and was vomiting with the pain. It's because there are so many nerve endings in your palm. I had to have it dressed and get mega strength pain relief

My DH is a dentist and used to seeing people in pain and he was pretty horrified.

Ice on a burn. No ointment at all. If you go to hospital they will scrub the ointment off.

You can't ride it out, burns are agony. Get some ice on it. Ice cubes in a tea towel. Crush the ice cubes with a rolling pin so the corners of the ice cubes don't dig into the burn.

You are at the end of your coping skills because it hurts so much. Good luck trying to get any sleep tonight.

A&E - now..!! You should never put anything greasy on a burn (my DF was in the Fire Service and I was taught that from a very young age). If it's been 8 hours, you need medical attention asap.

Advice given by 111 is to run under cold tap for no longer than 30mins, then cover in cling film and take it to a&e. Bit late for you now, but try the cling film ad a&e bit...

If you go to a&e, either put cling film on the burn or put a clean tea towel over your hand. This will keep infection out.

Get your hand in some ice before you leave for hospital. Find someone to drive as you've had a drink and you're in pain from the burn. Also, you could be in for a long wait in casualty.

Could you phone your local mobile doctor ? In our county it's ThamesDoc or WeyDoc. Or phone the NHS helpline ?

From the NHS website. From what you've said, you need to go to hospital.

You probably should get it seen to. In the meantime wrap it in cling film to get the air off it.

A clean pillow case over the burned hand could suffice if no tea towel or cling film.

Just a warning DD had a big scald with blister on her torso (she was draining peas & stopped concentrating teenager) we went to A&E & waited the full 4 hours and they just dressed it & sent us home. We got home at 3:30am. I was advised to go to A&E by 111, pain was so bad couldn't run cold water over it & scald was enormous.

I think you need to get it seen if it is blistering and covers your whole palm . I did exactly the same thing once and put my hand on a recently turned off ceramic hob. It was over 10 years ago and I can remember the pain. Yours sounds worse as I didn't blister. I ended up filling an empty 1litre coke bottle with ice water so I could go to sleep with my hand on the bottle. I believe that wrapping the burnt area in clean cling film can also help.
I hope you are ok and get seen soon.

This isn't going to get better without medical assistance. You need to go to a&e.

Hope you're on your way to A&E now. I burnt the tip of my finger when frying bread and oh my fucking god, the pain was exquisite. For hours. I had my finger in cold water for a good two hours.

Last year I dropped a full bubbling cheese lasagne directly from the oven into my arm. I had burns from my wrist to my elbow.
Keep it under cold water for as long as you can. Wrap a bag of frozen peas or something similar in a soft tshirt and go to the walk in centre or a&e.
The walk in centre cleaned and dressed my burns and sent me away with extra dressings- they didn't stick to the open wounds while they were healing. I kept it covered for about 10 days and then luckily it scabbed over and other than a big white patch of no freckles (I'm very freckley) you'd never know it had happened.
Keep it clean and dry and don't pick it. I really feel your pain though. Its the worst pain I can remember ever being in Flowers

Been on a first aid course today - burns to the surface of hands or feet need seeing by a doctor. Due to the millions of nerve endings in them.
