I never realised how many things had Aspartame in it until I read my bottle lables the other day.
Always wondered what the big thing was about on MN about Fruit Shoots, is it this everyones on about?
I googles Aspartame the other night & was about how bad it is.
I buy sparkle flavour water & flavoured still water from tesco & had no idea Aspartame was in it.
Is there a drink on the market that doesn't contain it. I have never been into looking at lables etc before, but pretty worried about it now.

I'm not sure about that Tamum. I think we are pretty used to accepting that in medicine the end often does justify some pretty unsavoury means - using maggots to excise decomposing tissue in septic wounds, for example. If the process of making insulin isn't very nice, most of us would just agree to accept that on the basis that insulin saves lives.

Saying that just because it's acceptable to use this process to make a life-saving substance it must be all right to apply it in all circumstances is wrong IMO. It's a bit like saying that because most people agree that animal testing for vital medicines is necessary, we might as well let the cosmetic companies do it as well.

I think they're about £1.99, but they are strong so you don't need much.

I don't think I was making that argument was I? It's true that I don't see bacterial modification as particularly gross, though. God knows it's not as though they just lyse the bateria and bottle them.

And then there's the issue of not telling the consumer that such a process has been used. Most people would still probably prefer to be told if GM ingredients were included in something they selected to purchase from a range of goods. We should be furnished with the information to decide whether or not GM ingredients constitute a reason not to buy a certain drink, shouldn't we?

I just see it as a way of making a pure protein, not something frankensteiny, so no, it doesn't bother me in the least whether we're told or not. I think we'll have to agree to disagree on this.

I bought some nice cordial from Waitrose, but I can't remember who makes it. Which isn't very heplful. Belvoir? No aspartame anyway.

I tend to buy the sparkly flavoured water for Ds as he gets very hyper, so banned Coke/Lemonade. He never has it at all. DD doesnt like it anyway. But she loves flavoured water, is there a flavoured water that doesn't contain Aspartame?

But I'm afraid I don't know the answer to your question.

I do know however that Waitrose sell tonic water that doesn't contain aspartame, and dry ginger ale.
But that's for me...
