Sudden bladder weakness issues - embarassed!

I have NCed for this as I am rather . In the last couple of weeks, I have been experiencing bladder weakness. I am not talking cough/sneeze issues, but more that I need to wear a sanitary towel. I can't think of anything I have changed and have tried to cut back to decaf (caffeine does not help apparently).

It just seems so odd as not normal for me at all. Also bloating stomach pain that has been keeping me awake at night all this week. Not awful but period pain like although no period. That has gone awol since before Christmas. Wondering if this is all perimenopausal stuff (40).

Any tips as this is really getting me down and I feel so . I have bit the bullet and made a GP appt but it's not for two weeks due to business at the surgery.

Sounds like a urine infection. Get an emergency book on the day appointment. Don't leave it two weeks a raging uti can cause a kidney infection or even sepsis if not treated.

Sudden onset - I'd be thinking bladder infection too. I had similar when I was about 15 - wetting myself on the doorstep, unable to get inside in time. But no pain either.

Thanks bananas, that's a good point. I tend to think of UTIs as cystitis like and this is not. I am home tomorrow so will try first thing. I think they might let me at least give a sample anyway if not.

I would leave a sample in before your appointment, if possible. Definitely sounds like an infection.

Does sound like a urine infection especially with the stomach pain too, only time I have ever wet the bed was when I had one And yes, a kidney infection is nasty from personal experience so get it treated promptly. I take it there's no loss of sensation or numbness on the skin anywhere around your saddle area?

Thanks coco and promises, no loss of sensation. Stomach pain is very period pain like. I have never had that type of pain with a UTI before. I think you are all right. Thanks for the helpful posts :)

Thanks wise MNetters, you were right about the UTI. Appreciate the push as not have some antibs and they have sent the sample off to the hospital to check whether the right antibs. Thanks .

Now have some antibs. More haste and less speed needed.

Glad it was an infection, in the nicest possible way of course . I remember going to my GP for a similar problem and the GP didn't even test my urine. All she said was at my age (less than 50) it should be something I expected, bladder failure, and gave me some pills which she said I would have to take for the rest of my life . I made another appointment with a different GP a week later as the pills she had given me were not doing the trick and that GP tested my urine and found out it was an infection. So glad I went back.

With those antibiotics hopefully you should start having better bladder function quite quickly. Glad you got seen.

Roundthebend, testing for a uti is a basic first investigation for bladder weakness. So glad you got a second opinion.

I have had cystitus with the pain,burning,frequency, and kidney infection, but a couple of times over a few years, I stood up and wet myself, couldnt hold it at all, like you thought this is a bit weird, you dont suddenly become incontinent! I wasnt meant to have "tea breaks" at work just one hour in twelve and a half, I got a bottle of water at the beggining of my shift, and discretely carried it around made sure I drank plenty. Incidentally, you dont get anitbiotics for a UTI you get anti bacterials. One night drinking to work I didnt get bladder pain, drank cranberry juice as well as lots of water, hourly the Dr said, urine tested NAD, no need for further treatment.

Actually, you do get antibiotics with a UTI. There are certain ones that work especially well with your water works. DD1 is a martyr to them and has been since about the age of 4. Thanks to the GPs brushing off my concern (you're only the mother) she didn't get the help she needed when young enough and her bladder is hugely enlarged and permanently damaged.

I always got Trimithoprim for my recurring utis way back years ago, think it's an antibiotic used to treat bacteria? One of those ones I was always asked if I was pregnant as I believe you can't take them then because it may harm the developing baby.
