Wisdom Teeth, difficulty opening mouth

My wisdom teeth have been coming through for a year or two now with varying levels of pain. For the past two or three days the pain has been quite bad, and I've had difficulty opening my mouth. Today I've woken up with a swollen cheek, a sore throat and headache and can barely fit two fingers in my mouth.

I think it's an infection, so how quickly would I need to see my dentist? I have an appointment on Thursday so should I wait until then?

You definitely need to be seen today. It's not going to get better on its own.

You need antibiotics as it'll only get worse otherwise. Poor you. Call 111 and they can get you an out of hours appointment.

Balls. I thought that might be the case. Will get on to 111.

It would happen on the morning I need to make the (extremely messy) flat sparkling for a viewing with a Velcro baby!

Just wanted to say I feel your pain, my wisdom teeth came through at an angle cutting into my cheek & causing infection. Got a new dentist who said (after months of on/off pain & trouble) "oh I would of had them pulled" Hmm

Definitely go and see your dentist, hope this isn't a recurring problem for you.

I managed to get an emergency appointment (111 are amazing) and have been given Metronidazole and told my wisdom teeth will probably need to come out Confused

I've woken up this morning and my jaw is actually tighter. Does anyone know how long it will take before I'll regain normal movement? I reaaallllly miss eating.

Missed this reply. How are you feeling,OP? I hope they told you not to drink a drop of alcohol until 48hrs post Metronidazole. It'll make you violently ill.

A bit better, thanks, Hugh. Meant to be seeing the dentist tomorrow for a filling, although I'm not sure how far he'll get if I still can barely open my gob!

I know from bitter experience about Metronidazole and alcohol. DH gave me a parasite when I was pregnant and we both had to take it then. Only he didn't wait the 48h after before having a glass of wine...
