Why do boys have to put everything in their mouth????

My 2yr old ds has to put everything in his mouth.

So much so that today he decided to open my drawer and drink my Simple skin Toner and/or eye make up remover. I had literally walked from one room to another, grabbed my jumper and back in the room.

I didnt notice till he was then sick on the carpet, so we called NHS Direct, who said because he'd been sick, they told us to take him straight to A&E.

They checked him, checked with the Toxins database, but the ingredients werent on then, so they phone a toxicollegy place and read out the ingredients and they said only one is slightly harmful, and if he hasnt been sick within an hour, he'll be fine, the reason he was sick was because of the sour taste in his mouth and throat.

Thankfully touch wood, he hasnt been sick again, but we can now expect a call from the Child Protection Service, who will no doubt tell us we are bad parents.

All the, what I would call dangerous chemicals are well out of reach or locked away, these were in my make up drawer, which happened to be closed, but of course he can now open drawers.

I feel terrible that I didnt see the bottles and register that he may have drank them. God how bad am I???

Why do expect a call from the child protection services? Kids do crap like that all the time, it's amazing so many of them survive!

My 2yr old eats crayon, mud, sand and came very close to eating poo (dog poo) and it is simply a miracle that he hasnt tasted my make-up. Thanks for the post as you have spurred me into putting it all out of reach! I'm sure that CPS won't call - it was an honest (though upsetting) mistake that anyone could make!

My ds1 ate a packet of rennies he found in my coat pocket. CPS didn't call.

The hospital said that the CPS go thru a list of patients especially minors and this could be one they might possibly investigate.

The nurse didnt say for definite, that they would call, but to be aware that they might.

In some respects it is good that they do, but not when you havent really done anything wrong, DS2 also eats crayons, mud, stones (well he sucks the dirt of them), dead flys or spiders he finds ont he floor.

He is horrid sometimes, but hey kids are kids.

It is nice to know that I aint alone.

Probably said that to you JUST IN CASE you are one of the cases they follow up - better that you were aware that it MIGHT happen than have them contact you unexpectedly.

Oh now I have the eldest ds (6 yr) doing things.

He decided whilst in dh's care to stick a pencil eraser up his nose and got it stuck, he screamed down to dh, who promptly removed it, thankfully it scared him that much he wont be doing that again, altho you would have thought he'd have learnt his lesson after putting sweetcorn up his nose.

Why do they do it, is it a boy thing????

A 2yr old charge of mine once swallowed his Grandfather's tablets for a Heart complaint...rather nasty having your tummy pumped at 2yrs old!

Dont panic about the CPS. DS was in A&E after a head injury and they said the same to us. We had HV on the phone first next morning to say the same thing. Nothing happened.

Oh Ronnie ... no, it's not a boy thing! I had to take dd to the hospital a couple of years ago after some fresh peas accidentally "fell" up her nose! They all do it, boys or girls, and they all put everything they can in their mouths as well.

I'm sure the CPS don't have the time or the resources to chase the parents of every child who does something like this ... they would be here til kingdom come, and they have too many serious cases on their hands to chase up a two year old doing what two year olds do!

Hope he gets rid of the nasty taste in his mouth soon!

my friend's 3 children all managed to break a limb within a month - she did have CPS on the phone but were happy with the fact that she hadnt beaten them

Embarrassingly she had to take them to A&E where she is a nurse

Aww Have a hug aty least you haven't had to take the same child to A&E with head injuries twice in 6 months.
