I have always been at the lower end of a health body weight. In fact I think my GP suspected I had an eating disorder which I have never had. My mum was a small build , I don't have a huge appetite and I exercise.

Well come the last 3 years I've been putting on weight to the extent that I am now overweight but not obese. I have had to cut back sone exercise as I have bad anaemia although the Dr doesn't know why. However i cut calories accordingly. I really am that boring. I eat healthy and am careful.

I had an appt with an endocrine Dr last week and i was really hopfull Id get answers or help. He basically fobbed off my abnormal hormone levels. He said I should start calorie counting even though I explained I've done this and eat slightly less than recommended. He gave me some containers to do urine checks ,something to do with my bodies steroid production but has already told me it won't show anything.

In my appointment he talked over me all the time. He examined me incorrectly ( I used to work as a nurse. For example I'm pretty sure you can't exam someone's abdomen whilst they are sitting upright.

Basically according to him the weight gains my fault. Oh and while I remember a proper heavy period since end of November is normal and nothing to get checked out.

I waited months for this appointment for this. I'll need to go back to my GP I guess.

I dunno what I'm asking here but has anyone has a similar problem. It really is upsetting me.

Thanks if you read all this. Apologies for the length. If anything doesn't make sense feel free to say. I'm still new to MN.

'Abnormal hormone levels' - what abnormal results did you have?

Don't be fobbed off

Go back to the endocrinologist

Insist on a second opinion

I have raised prolactin. Plus my testosterone and oestrogen are out with normal limits but I'm not sure if that's too high or too low.
I'm just fed up of Dr not addressing my weight gain. I have good diaries and I exercise. How can this be normal.
Thanks to people who replied.

Has polycycstic ovarian syndrome been considered?
Irregular periods, weight gain, excessive body hair in a 'male pattern' eg on face, acne, high testosterone and prolactin, raised LH to FSH ratio I think? (Off top of my head do check), cysts on ovary on ultrasound?
Responds to low carb/ low GI diet, contraceptive pill, or specialist treatments

How high is yout prolactin?/ sky high or just a bit raised?

Did you get a print out of your results? Underactive thyroid can cause weight gain but it's often undiagnosed if the tests are in normal range. Many people feel the range is set too wide. That's what happened to me. But do you have any symptoms other than weight gain? You can ask for a second opinion.

Hi. So sorry I took so long to reply. I have to do 24 hour urine test for cortisone. I was told all thyroid results are fine and I've been on same dose for 7 years. Regarding polycystic I do have irregular periods plus oestrogen/testosterone are irregular. No ace or hair growth. However I've put on 4 stone despite good amounts of exercise and a really healthy diet. They can see how much this upsets me and do nothing. The talk cap like you know 1 extra biscuit means.... I literally have no junk food in house as I'm not bothered by it. It's really getting me down. Next other plan is an ovarian u/s I've has 2 before all negative

Sorry I forgot to say my prolactin was about 897 I think. Endocrine have just discharged me back to my GP. It may sound vain but the weight gains really getting me down. I've always been slim and healthy. I still eat well and exerciSe. I gain 3 stone and no-one is listening.
