Post sepsis fatigue ??

I was hospitalised with pneumonia and sepsis from 24th November - 9th December and I'm still struggling.

Terrible fatigue, breathless and dizzy on exertion and muscle/back pain if I try and walk for.

The exhaustion has me knocked for six

Is this normal??

Yes, you have been seriously ill. However, it's worth checking that you aren't anaemic - have you had a blood test recently?

It took me a good 6-9 months to fully recover from the same. The drs said it was completely normal and not to downplay how serious an illness it had been. Be kind to yourself.

My niece had it November. She's only 2 but my SIL still doesn't think she's back to normal she's napping more then she did before it happened.

I've had post viral fatigue after flu (obviously not as serious as sepsis) and it took me a good few month to get back to normal.

Sorry your feeling rough.

I'm due a blood test to check my liver function as the antibiotics affected it. I suppose they'll check for anaemia then.

It's reassuring to know this might be expected. It's so frustrating.

I'm due back at work 4th January - I'm not sure if that's remotely possible !

I had a month off, but I work from home now. If I'd still been working as a nurse it would have been longer.

I had sepsis and serious blood loss 4 years ago, I was only 23 and it really took it out of me, took about 2 months to feel semi normal.

Even now I get so tired and achy and can't do things I did before like clubbing all night Grin I swear it's aged my body 20 years, I'm only 27! Confused

I did get ptsd from what happened so maybe that has something to do with my fatigue? I love for someone to tell me how to make it better, my bloods are fine, no deficiencies or anemia so I don't really know what to do.

It does suck.
