Smear test: TTC and alternatives to GP office?

Two questions really:

I am due my smear test just as we are about to start ttc and I understand it's best to do it before that?

I therefore want to get it done ASAP and I'd need to have it next week but the GP is completely booked up.

Apparently family planning clinics don't offer it in my local area according to the GP's office (I haven't called the clinics yet but will do). Is there any other way to have it? I'd be willing (depending on cost) to have it done privately.

Thanks

Nurses do smear tests round here, not GPs. Have you asked if there are apponitments with the nurse rather than with a doctor?

You usually have to be referred to a private practitioner by your GP.

Just have the test and focus on ttc afterwards. At worst it's a one month delay.

Sorry it is for a nurse at the GP's office I mean.

We have had to wait for various reasons to start ttc and at 39 a month is a long time. Annoyed at myself as didn't realise before that my smear was due again.

I will see if I can get a private referral.

Thanks

marie stopes clinics do them - you won't need a referral just call for an appointment

Thanks Lanikea, it wasn't cheap (£99) and took a while to get through but have booked it for next week. Will let my GP's office know too as they said it wasn't possible!
