Hooray my mirena has just fallen out I'm so glad.
Bloody thing. Strangely enough I had an appt to discuss having it taken out , but Iv had such a bad hormone related migraine that I had to cancel it.
It's done nothing for 9 months apart from make me depressed, fat & yeti looking.
Good riddance to the implement of misery!!

Nice one! Happy for you :) wish mine had fallen out, I had to have a general anaesthetic to get it out!

I have heard so many bad reviews about them that I will never have one fitted no matter how hard my GP's surgery tries to push them.

Queen that sounds awful ... Was it worse having it out than put in ?

The female Dr at the family planning clinic was AWFUL to me when I insisted having mine taken out after 18 months of misery, in fact she said I'd be back there "pregnant by the end of the year" Shock

The constant itching disappeared immediately, I no longer spotted and they finally sorted out my awful periods properly instead!

DING DONG THE MIRENA IS DEAD

Sorry Xmas Blush I hated mine, I hated it so much I Ebayed some nice clothes to go private and get a very understanding gynaecologist to listen to me and take the bloody thing out.

Topseyt, just to counter balance - im on my 2nd (first replaced after 5 years) & I love it. Barely any periods & no period pain at all & not fallen pregnant by accident, so I'm assuming it works! Those of my friends who have had it, have had very positive experiences too.

Op, glad you're sorted though as I've read the horror stories too & it sounds awful if it doesn't agree with you.

Without help?!

Congratulations anyway. They're dreadful things.

I had a female GP try to brow beat me into having one of these just yesterday.

I told her I'd heard nothing but awful things (thank you MN) about them and that I was perfectly happy with the pill I take that I KNOW works for me and doesn't give my any shitty side effects.

She wasn't impressed. Will definitely be forcefully declining next time she tries.

Glad you're rid of it OP Flowers.

Ahhh thankyou ladies for understanding.

I have felt so low since being on it and I put on loads of weight which made me feel even lower.

I just want to feel human again !

They must have been NoMud. Praise be!

Many times I contemplated a bottle of vodka, the bath and some long tweezers. That thing drove me mad, the pain and the bloating! Horrid.

The gp was trying to encourage me to have one. I asked her whether they would take it out if I asked them to, or whether they would tell me to keep it and let it settle. She looked embarrassed and didn't answer 😳

Hooray!

I'm so glad I stuck to my guns in turning it down (time and time again) at the GP. What's their obsession with it? They must have a target they need to make for migrating women from the pill to the Mirena cook!

I have one and have been lucky. It's the only hormonal contraceptive that agrees with me. Though I would love to know why GPs are sooo pushy with it?

Can I ask how it came out? Did it just fall out by itself with no help? It must be a great relief to you anyway

MadHattersWineParty · 22/12/2016 00:12

I read that the GPs can become 'Mirena trained' but to maintain this level of training, they have to fit 6 Mirenas in a month.

ageingrunner · 22/12/2016 00:21

Do they get paid for it? I.e. A CQUIN or whatever it's called?

IhatchedaSnorlax · 22/12/2016 00:26

I never had the hard sell with it at all, In fact I had to ask for it? Confused

That's interesting madhatter but why then are they so reluctant to take them out if asked?

Nomud in was worse than out as I was unconscious for out! The strings had gone awol so no other way to get at it. It was v bad having it in as they said it was suitable as I've had 2 kids but due to birth circs I've only gone a little into early labour once. So cervix has never been dilated or had a baby through. Consultant said doc must have had "a hell of a job" getting it in after looking at cervix for strings and having a poke around. Said he felt v sorry must have been awful. Yes, it wasn't pleasant!

Sorry to hear you ever had such a bad time with it. I have to say, I love mine! Sorted out my endometriosis symptoms and no weight gain etc.

Just shows how everyone is different :)
