Shingles in 16 yr old

Hi all, is this possible? My ds has had a sore rib for 3 days (we thought he'd done too many press-ups and pulled an intercostal) but he now has a rash where the pain is and another smaller rash patch on the same side of his back further round. It reminds me of shingles when I had it at 18yrs, just before A levels. Ds has GCSEs this year and although is busy, is not madly stressed. Could this be shingles? He feels fine and is due yo play in a hockey match tomorrow! TIA. X

I had shingles when I was 16, but I didn't feel at all fine, I felt rotten, and the rash quickly turned to little blisters, like chicken pox.

Can you get very mild shingles?

I had shingles at 18, just the rash didn't feel ill, just a bit sore and itchy.

I had shingles in my twenties, felt absolutely fine apart from the oozing blisters.

Thanks all. Perhaps it is! X

Google the rash, it's distinctive.

Suggest he doesn't play hockey and avoids school until consulting a GP, eg if there are any pupils with weakened immune systems.

Could be, mine felt fine for several days before it got really unpleasant. Sore ribs too, not just a rash.

Yes. Could be shingles. Resume he's already had chicken pox? Get to gp for anti virals ASAP.

I had a patch of shingles with Chicken Pox
Definitely >16 GP was (apparently) bemused! Believe I've had a couple of "attacks" over the years .....

My 14 yr old DS had it earlier this year. A course of anti-vitals worked well. He felt rough for about 10 days. The rash wash on his ribs below his arm pit!

Anyone who has had chicken pox can get shingles. Ds got them at age 3

Many thanks all. GP tomorrow am and definitely not feeling great now. The rash has popped up in two more places on RH side (back and more on rib cage) 99% sure it's shingles now. X
