Could this be measles?

ds is nearly 2 and a half, hasn't had MMR. took him to GP on Monday as barking cough and sounding wheezy, checked over and chest seemed OK. then from last night he's had temp of 38.8-38.9, red eyes with bit of yellow gunk oozing out (yellow gunk usual for him when he has cold etc) and have just noticed what looks like spots behind his ears and a few on face.

going to Gp again at 5pm, but does this sound like just a mild virus or something worse?

he's off his food really, but is bfing loads (as usual!).

tia, Dinny

Could be either- check inside his mouth for little white spots like grains of sand (although sometimes they're gone by the time the rash comes). There isn't a huge amount of measles around though so its probably more likely to be some vile virus.

inside of cheeks and roof of mouth. How did you get on???

Did you have measles as a kiddy? If so and he does have it he should still have some help from the breastmilk (this is the one reason why I was sad not to be able to bfeed ds3- I would have loved him to have extra protection against nasties).

hello, thanks for asking, Jimjams.

aftr hideously long wait (17 people in front of us - receptionist says it's usually 1-2 in for E Surgery!)saw doc (ahem, the rash had miraculously vanished by time we got there - think it must have been a heat rash as ds had fallen asleep on me). So, it's not measles, but his glands are huge, gummy eyes, chest OK. So, it's just Calpol and he's givn eyedrops (that I'll only use if I really have to - will do the bm thing first)

yes, I had measles when I was a year old - is reassuring, definitely.
