I get Migraines every month before I'm due on. They're not nice but I muddle on without time off work, taking ibuprofen and paracetamol. After three days they go as if they'd never been there.
This week I've had the migrane from hell. Completely floored me. Never felt so poorly. On the fourth day I went to docs as still headache and tired and face felt hot. But blood pressure ok etc. Today day 5 I've still woken up with headache and tired.
Does anyone else get long migraine and how do you cope?
Thanks

I get hemiplegic migraines a lot (without medication they are nearly 24/7), but I find taking a daily vitamin B complex helpful in reducing the severity. I get a high dose bottle of it from Holland & Barratt, usually on offer. Magnesium supplements can also help. Also, for pain relief, I personally find codeine to be more effective that paracetamol. I can't use ibuprofen as it makes mine worse.

I used to get horrendous migraines- auras, blind spots, searing pain. I was referred to a neurologist and now take tiporomate every day (actually an epilepsy medication) and sumatriptan when I get the warning signs. I've been so much better since. Also, consider coming off the pill if you are on the combined pill. I feel your pain, they truly are horrible things. Try to see a neurologist if you can- it changed my life!

Doghairinmytea - can I recommend you speak with your neurologist to confirm if you need to take any supplements alongside the Topamax. I was on it for nearly a decade & have lost about 75% of my hair (hence the break to see if it will grow back - it isn't).

I second seeing a neurologist if you can get a referral. I want the doc to put me back on Topamax despite the charming side effects, as I had better pain control.

Sumitriptan used to help me. I also have had a course of 8 months on Amytriptiline and a high dosage of magnesium. Get a referral from your GP to a neurology migraine clinic if it continues - even if just a blip get the sumitriptan to use every month - I found otc meds just didn't touch the pain

Very important not to be on the pill if you suffer migraines.

Mine are kept at bay now with a tiny dose of Propranolol and never, but never, going near anything with cheese in.

If I get an attack I take lorezepam which knocks me out completely and when I wake the migraine has gone - I prefer to sleep through it rather than suffer through it! Not a text book treatment but it works for me.

Sorry you had to go through that Lego. I came off Topomax when I was pregnant with my ds and haven't gone back on it. Will definitely see my neurologist if I go back onto it.

Sumatriptan helps mine. I usually get two a month.

I also read recently that foods that Have previously been listed as triggers, might actually be cravings when the migraine has actually already begun.
