I'm being sterilised later this month - its only a day case thing but how will i feel after it? My dp has 4 days off work after it but then has to do 4 night shifts - will i be well enough to look after our kids on my own?

I've had it done and felt fine afterwards. Would have been fine the same day to look afetr 4 kids.

However I've previously had a laparoscopy (the same keyhole surgery but without the sterilisation), and that time was in bad pain afterwards - worse than a c-sec and was in bed for a week. Apparantly its all down to the gas they pump into you (noone told me this though - thought I was dieing). Maybe they had to pump more gas in that time than when I got sterilised as the 1st time they were having a good look around rather than just going straight to my tubes.

Not saying it to scare you - but if you do get the pain it is just gas not internal bleeding like I thought. Also drink peppermint tea and take peppermint oil capsules afterwards - I did for the 2nd one as a nurse advised me to and it was definetly better.

good luck

Was sterilised in November, day surgery with no anaesthetic - more fool me. It was a relatively new procedure - Essure, and no probs really - except the pain at the time and the low bp afterwards. Have to go back soon for a checkup but no regrets.

thanks for that! i had thought it would be fine but i went for a pre-op assessment and they said i shouldnt lift for 2 weeks!!!!!!! this is a little bit impractical for doing the school run with a toddler and baby in tow! (hence the sterilisation!!)
might try and pretend its worse than it is for the days my dp is at home! a few days in bed with a good book and reg cups of tea will do me no harm!!!
