Cramps after period and heavy 'spotting' 10 days before. Why?!

Hi,
I hope someone can advise. I went to see the Dr and he was super unhelpful - said something about potential IBS and 'the joys of womanhood'. :/

For the past year or so, I have been having random craps about a week after my period. I put these down to just one of those things or ovulation - but I have 35 day cycle & this is happening about 7 days after my period ends and 7 days before usual ovulation signs.

For the last 3 months, I have had heavy, very dark 'spotting' about 7 - 10 days before my actual period starts.

I have had a non-hormonal coil in place for the last 3 years. Can anyone tell me what is going on?!

Have you got another gp you can see op? Failing that I would go back and ask for a referral to gynae. Intermenstrual and postcoital bleeding always need to be checked out. It may be nothing but natural age related changes or it may be other things but it needs to be checked out.

Thanks for the reply. He said he would put a referral through for me but haven't had anything back yet and I'm just getting a bit bothered by it. I'm 26 (if that makes any difference). And can't find any clear explanation for why it's happening :/

Have you had your first smear yet? You are very young for age related changes. I would go back and ask what stage your referral is at if it has been more than two weeks.

I would seek a second opinion from another GP within the practice and ask to be referred to a gynaecologist for further evaluation- what you were told initially is nothing short of being fobbed off. I would also check with the practice initially to check whether you have actually been referred to a gynae.

I would in the meantime keep a pain and symptom diary noting everything symptom wise; what you are experiencing currently is not normal and its not due to the "joys of womanhood" either. I would also take the IBS remark with a huge pinch of salt as well, again I think said out of ignorance of the problem.

Spotting between periods in any event should also be checked out to ascertain the underlying cause; its often not serious but it should be checked all the same. Any symptom as well that is cyclical in nature should also be checked further to see if endometriosis is to blame.

Thank you for the replies. I will try ringing the Drs tomorrow. Does anyone know if having the copper coil in could cause any of this?

Do you still have the coil insitu op? That could explain your symptoms, but still needs to be checked. I think I read it that you had had the coil removed.
