Can constipation cause a child to vomit?

Ok so there has been a sickness bug going around and the whole family has had it over the last week or so and are now all recovered. However dd has just been sick again this evening but I thought it might be because she has not had a bowel movement since Wednesday ( which was when the sickness bug struck her) and then before that it was four days previously !! Her tummy looks quite distended, do you think she has been sick because she is all backed up or are we back to square one with a bug?

How old is your dd?

This happened to my DS when he was about 9 months old - after 5 days he threw up and I am convinced it was because of the constipation.

Have you given her anything for it?

She's 4 and I think it is partly because she is a bit toilet phobic. I had terrible trouble potty training her to do her poos.

I hate to say this as I absolutely hate sick, but sometimes the bug can come back, This happened to DD3 after having bug on a friday had the weekend to recover went back to school on the Monday and then that evening she was sick again. No reasoning just happened. After that she was ok.

She was only sick again twice (HaHa only sick twice- big deal in my life) Maybe its your DDs way of getting rid of the waste that should of been wasted in the proper way IIYKWIM. Hope all goes well tonight and shes not sick anymore- think we should ban BL**dy sickness!!!!!

yes can be sick if constipated - sounds like she hasn't pooed in a while - get her to the Dr - they can feel her tummy and tell you how "bunged up" she is.
hope she's better soon

I'm taking her to the docs tomorrow morning and sods law she has a bowel movement this evening. Anyway I figure it's still worth going although I am preparing my self for scrutiny of her diet and will try very hard not to feel like a bad mother because she does sometimes eat rubbish. Her stomach still looks pretty distended.

How did you get on at the DR? Worth going as one poo isn't going to clear a backlog of poos-not-done
my son has a good diet (mainly due to the nursery - not me!) and he still gets bunged up
it's just one of those things

He prescibed lactulose which is what I thought he would do. I saw the lentil weaving doctor at the surgery so got a bit of a lecture about her diet and fluids all of which I am only too aware of. I know she doesn't drink enough and I know she goes through phases of liking fruit and veg and right now she doesn't like it.
She needs a good flush out, her tummy is huge whereas the rest of her is so skinny.
