Think about it more as an operation on your jaw than a tooth extraction. If you'd had an op on your hand or foot you'd probably still expect to be in pain. Keep the painkillers up, take it easy, do some gentle rinsing and don't smoke (if you do).

I'm a dentist btw altho lots of MNers will come along tell you that you've got an infection or a dry socket. Give it a few more days. smile

When I had my tooth out, one of the big chunky ones half way back at the bottom, it was really tender for a good 4 days or so. Regular painkillers and ice cream helped.
Once the site had all closed up I was really careful not to chew on that side to let the tissue heal properly for about 2-3 weeks. It's been 6 months now and you wouldn't know anything had been done there, well apart from the tooth sized gap that is!

I had dry socket three weeks ago. Interesting pain that was confused

Dentist told me I would be in pain for a bit as it was my jawbone reshaping and settling down. Was in pain for two weeks but I did have an infection.

If you've been told to rinse your mouth, do. The last thing you want is an infection on top.
And keep on top of painkillers - it's early days yet.

Row you had dry socket ?? Fuck man - that's meant to be agony . Sorry ! When did it kick in ?

I am looking after them very well - and I think the worse is over . But I ache from eating on one side and I am starting to 'notice' the gap - ugh

I know it's only a tooth but I so wish I could turn back time (a tough bread 7 years ago) and have it back <sob>

Kicked in two days after the tooth was pulled. The socket didn't hurt at all, just the side of my face, jawbone, earache, whole side of the face!

Been out four weeks and yeah am noticing the gap. Especially when I eat that side which I'm happy to report I can now do!

Good luck with the tooth, or lack of it!

I was fine yesterday, buit this morning I foolishly had a fag and a coffee

now I feel all swollen and its throbbing. I don't think I have dry socket as pain is manageable, but I think my detox will continue for a good 2 weeks

Who would have thought it, maybe I should have touched out 3 more root canals sad

Hope tooth is less sore today and caffeine and nicotine are doing their job!
