Dd 16 is away working atm. She rang yesterday to say she wasn't well. She had been sick in the night and she had severe stomach pain in the area, her description, where your rib cage parts shooting upwards.
She didn't eat anything and continued to throw up water. The 111 operator sent an ambulance. Apparently it was quicker to send an ambulance than for a Dr to come out.
She was given a full examination and they thought it was gastrointestinal. Said to get Gaviscon and paracetamol.
Last night she said the pain had spread to below her left breast and overnight she has been sick another 4 times.
Is there a bug going around or does anyone know what it could be?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Did she actually go to hospital, as it sounds as if that's where she needs to be.

No she hasn't gone to hospital yet. The ambulance crew checked her over and said they thought it was gastrointestinal. But I would have thought she should be getting a little better.

I am 300 miles away so am only in contact via phone. I offered to go to her yesterday but she said not to.

Just want to go and give her a hug

What a worry for you, oliversmumsarmy, especially not being nearer to her.
Hope she has someone responsible around who can take her to present at A&E if necessary if she's no better.

There are chaperones because there are younger girls involved and one of the chaperones has been running her around. She is resting atm but when she wakes up if she is still the same then it will be off to a & e.

A friend said she was in a&e at the weekend, completely opposite part of the country and a few people in the waiting room were screaming in agony and throwing up.

Anyone know if there is a bug going around

yes, I spent last Sunday night vomiting and diarrhoea, ALL NIGHT! was bloody awful and didnt get a wink of sleep. I too had bad abdo pain and was vomiting bile at the end but it settled around 5am. was a long night.

I think there must be a bug going round.

Hope she is feeling better today

Been sick twice this morning. Her ribcage hurts because of the strain of being sick.
She had a bath and felt a lot better when in the water but it hurt as soon as she got out. Having a couple of hours rest then going to see how she is and maybe going to the hospital then.

I thought it would have worked its way out by now but she just keeps bringing the water back up

Dd is in hospital she has had morphine for the pain and anti sickness tablets but she is still in pain. Bloods have been taken, she is going on a drip and she has to have an xray as they suspect gall stones.

Can you get gall stones if you are as slim vegetarian 16year old. I always thought you had to be about 40 to get them

Oliversmums, I'm sorry to hear that DD is in hospital, but she'll be in good hands now, and being sorted out.
I don't know anything about gallstones, only what you were probably thinking, about the old saying that they affected those who were "fair, female, fat, and forty".
Hope your DD is better soon.

yes you can get gallstones at that age and interestingly it was my first thought when you described the pain. Fat fair and 40 used to what the descriptor was but it is purely a generalisation can strike at any time as could a kidney stone

Well she spent the night in hospital
she is taking morphine paracetamol and anti sickness tablets and managed to keep down 1/2 a cheese sandwich. She feels a lot better but I don't know if that is because of the meds.
I thought she might have Gastritis. I think I had it but nothing was done and I ended up with stomach ulcers..

Oliversmums, good news that your DD is feeling better today.

Could be gastritis as that's where the pain is - between the rib cages at the front and then over to the left under, because the stomach is there.
If she has been eating fast food late at night etc, that could be it. Something could have just triggered a bout of it. If she is vegetarian and is away from home it may be hard for her to stick to a routine of finding things to eat, so more likely to upset her stomach if is susceptible, possibly. She may be stuck with cheese pizzas and chips or some such.
I have gastritis and take omeprazole now all the time. When I first had it I would get pains in my stomach and chest and vomit only at night a couple of hours after lying down.

Where she is all food is provided so no fast food she is supposed to be rehearsing for a play which has its first performance next Friday. They think it is gastritis and will be staying in hospital tonight. She is now on anti inflammatories.

Day 4 in hospital. The doctor said her bloods show she has gallstones!!!
They are going to re scan her tomorrow as the first scan showed nothing. Also she is a very slim super fit vegetarian teenager. Do people like that get gall stones. All the stuff about at risk teens seem to say that they are usually obese and take very little exercise.
At this rate I doubt she will be out of hospital this month.

Update. Dd finally had her ultrasound yesterday.
They were looking for gall stones or an inflamed gall bladder. Turned put it was neither of those.
She has gastritis. I actually told dd to tell them that I thought she had gastritis on Thursdays. DD said they told her that I should not be googling symptoms and she definitely didn't have gastritis.
She is out of hospital on a bucket load of pain killers and anti sickness pills and has joined the rest of the cast for rehearsals.
She is so happy Smile
