I can't decide if this looks positive or not! I bought home urinalysis strips during pregnancy to see if I had any protein, just done one now 14 months later just for fun. But now I'm unsure if this looks like there's some glucose in the urine.

I've been feeling ill a bit so I thought I'd have a go. This was my second go. I feel headachey and just a general bleh feeling. I thought it was my asthma but my O2 sats are 95-96%ish so they're OK.

Yes indeed. I just wanted to see if anyone else could see it as positive or if I was just fussing. There's a family history of diabetes, my brother wasn't diagnosed with type 1 diabetes til he was about my age so I got worried! I'll really have to get a hobby rather than giving myself medical tests

Possibly trace glucose, but type 1 diabetes would give you far more than trace glucose in your wee so don't give it another thought.

No, it doesn't look positive. Throw the test strips away. You can't interpret them as a stand alone thing, they're probably out of date and if you're worried about your health you're best getting a couple of piss pots and taking a sample into your GP surgery for testing by a medical professional who can also judge your symptoms alongside your urinalysis.

With regards to you saying your brother has T1, this, to me, is a little irksome. My DD(7) was diagnosed aged 5, and she was told, like your brother would have been told, that it is an immune disorder, incurable, with no known cause, and a family history of T1, e.g. my sibling has T1, has no bearing on your susceptibility to developing T1. So, unless you are in possession of information not passed on by CDDFT, I would advise to get rid of the test strips, stop worrying, and if you develop symptoms of diabetes (excessive tiredness, excessive thirst, going to the toilet more often, losing weight) go and see your GP with a urine sample.

It is hard to tell but if the strips have been open that long they won't be accurate anyway. Undiagnosed diabetes (particularly Type 1) would give other symptoms - raging thirst and peeing loads think 4+ times per night.
Do a sample drop it in at the docs and bin the strips!

They only last for a few weeks once they are opened (well the Diastix ones we use do) even if they are within their expiry date

Paris If you could forward me the links and articles I will forward that to DD's PDSN and consultant and ask a) why they haven't told families of this link and b) why the teaching literature says there is no inherited trait. Seriously, I want to see the links to pass on to DD's healthcare professionals.

And I, too, have worked as a professional scientist. Jolly good for both of us. And with that professional scientist background you should know better than to post pictures of a random test result for a bunch of internet strangers to analyse.

Honestly, you're fine. Your kidneys get a bit leaky in pregnancy so if you have a sugar-containing food shortly before testing, it can show in your urine. It's perfectly normal (and good!) for your body to dump off excess glucose through your urine.

If your midwife suspects gestational diabetes, you'll have a glucose tolerance test, where you'll take a set quantity of glucose, then have blood tests at timed intervals to see how your body is dealing with it.

Boogers, I presume Paris is referring to the inheritance pattern of certain human leukocyte antigen (HLA) complex variants: ghr.nlm.nih.gov/condition/type-1-diabetes#inheritance

They still don't know why or how the diabetes is triggered, but they do now know that there are familial inheritance patterns.

Just go to a doctor if you're worried. I just think you're being an attention seeking GF. You have had lots of advice to do the same thing but you're picking on the one person who has picked you up on a couple of things, albeit in a calm, reasoned and productive way, and you're using that to perpetuate your test result, which is a non existent test result.

Seriously, you must have known how ill your brother was before he was diagnosed. If you feel any of those symptoms go and see your GP.
