Constipation hints and tips

Anyone got any fabulous tips?
I broke my ankle, spent 5 days stuffed full of morphine and cocodamol and I'm jam packed!
It's so painful, and made worse by my lack of mobility. I've managed to "digitally evacute" a bit out of desperation. But there's an awful lot stuffed up there.
I can't go for any fast remedies because it takes me 10 minutes to get to the loo due to steps.
Are the suppositories any good?
My poor bum is so sore!

if it's more that you can feel hard stool in the rectal passage then it sounds it just needs softening- in which case suppositories will help as they dissolve the hardened stool.

Do you have anyone to help you? Call the out of hours GP and see if they can arrange for someone to come round and help

Glycerine suppositories are quite easy to find (often in poundland type places)
On top of that, ask for some movicol to pre-empt any further blockage if you are still in pain meds. Don't know why this isn't given automatically!!

Other things that might help - Hot drink (water with lemon being brilliant), hot bath, stool for your feet so you are in a better position .

You need stool softeners and then don't try to go until you feel it is urgent, otherwise you'll be straining with no outcome and risk piles on top of everything.

Can someone get to a chemist for you? You need lactulose or movicol to get things moving. The suppositories are good but can shift things quickly and with reduced mobility you might not make it.

Get some bisacodyl, ,take before bed and you will poo in the morning - much more effective than senna - on the pack it says take 1-2 , I'd start with one as they can be very efficient !

Thank you, I've got my poor partner here.
Amusingly before this happened I wouldn't even fart in front of him!
I'll pack him off to the shop to aquire some suppositories.
It is just hard stool refusing to make an appearance.
Luckily I'm able to cope with just paracetamol now, so hopefully the situation shouldn't reoccur.

I am unbunged!!!! It felt like I was crapping a pineapple, but it happened of its own accord eventually.
I shall get some movical in case I need the cocodamol again and maybe keep some suppositories handy. Thank you again!
