Wondering if I am being too laid back . She is fine in herself 1 hr after nurofen when temp comes down, running round etc, just has nasty cough and runny nose. Keep thinking its prob just nasty cold, viral. Don't want her on unnecessary antibiotics which my gp gives out like smarties. When temp up she is lying curled up on sofa and miserable. But why is temp staying up for third day now??

her body is fighting something. could be ears or throat? not good with the weekend coming up. can you pop to docs and get her checked over before they close just to be on the safeside

i'd keep an eye on her over the weekend
if the temperature is coming down effectively with nurofen/calpol mix (use both if you can't get it down) then i think she will be ok. mine has had this cold for a week now and i haven't been to docs. I think you know yourself if it is more serious (trust your instincts).

if however you can't get the temperature down or it goes above 39.5 then go to your nearest a&e.

we have had the same with dd 2/1/2 all week. Fine in the morning and then in the afternoon temp goes up to 38c but after calpol temp comes back down and shes right a rain again.

I guess its just a infection which she is fighting and havent taken her to gps either unless I though it was getting worse.

My ds had this. His temp was manageable for the first couple of days but then spiked at 41 Took him to the dr who diagnosed a secondary infection of ears and throat. It took ages for him to get better even with antib's

thanks so much for the advice. She seems to be improving today- no need for calpol/nurofen yet. YAY!!
