Can anyone offer some advice have just got back from Holiday in Turkey where DS1 age 4 has been ill with severe diarohea for 6 days. He has hardly eaten anything a bit of bread and water and has completely refused everything else. He is tired but not completely lethargic. I cant get him to do a sample for me and im going out of my mind with worry at the lack of food intake etc any advice out there? please!!!

I would give him them diarohea sachets to make sure his body gets the salts it needs (think that they are called diaralyte).
Also book him in to see the doctor tomorrow. If you get worried tonight phone that NHS direct. good luck x

how does he seem? If he was dehydrated his skin would be strange (I think the word is sallow). sort of sticks up as you pull it - doesnt go back.
how bad is the diarohea?

Hi love, its scary isn't it? Diaralyte is just sugar and salt really, perhaps he would be better off with a drink or cordial with a tiny pinch of salt in and half a teaspoon of sugar - do you think he would take that better.
Don't worry about the lack of food intake, its only the fluids you need to be concerned about - check his lips, these have no natural moisture of their own and are the first area to dehydrate.
If he's had it for 6 days, I would guess its a virus he has picked up there, that he has no antibodies to at all, food poisoning would probably be a lot more violent. Given that he's coped for this long, I doubt you need to rush him to the doctor tonight, but I should take him tomorrow - don't worry about a stool sample for now, if they really need one, they can help you get one
Keep him cool and give him whatever he will drink, but preferably clear fluid ie water. And avoid milk

thank you carlyb and lisa it is amazingly calming to hear others advice thank you thank you. I dont think he is dehydrated but the diarohea is really really bad he seems to have managed to regain some control but it is pure liquid and quite yellow (sorry to be so graphic!) His lips are beginning to dry and crack and i had noticed this so have really really perserved with the liquids, thanks for the advice ladies.

Another suggestion for keeping his liquid intake up. If you have any ice cubes made up, bash them up a bit into chips for him to suck on.

I am sure you'll get seen quickly at your doctor's surgery tomorrow when you explain that the diarrohea is still persisting.

Hope he gets better soon.
