vomitting up pain meds. should I call out of hours docs?

Not been well this week. Vomiting most days at least once and felt rough. Think (not sure though) its a bug. But, then over the last 24 hours it's gone from throwing up undigested food to not holding anything down, like an actual stomach bug.

I have a poorly lower back. On long term pain meds for this. Largely this week I have managed to hold down some of my meds, only throwing up, or missing the odd dose. However, have not held anything down all day, just thrown up my one attempt at taking meds. Last meds that I took and that stayed down was 8pm last night.

My back pain has been mostly managed (i.e. not gone, but can cope), but, with no meds, combined with the position that vomiting puts my back in being awful for it, the pain is increasing.

Not to mention that if I don't take anything soon, I will also probably start to get withdrawal symptoms as these are meds that need to be stopped slowly, not suddenly.

Should I call out of hours to get anti-sickness meds? I really would prefer for my back pain to not spiral out of control on top of the effects of the vomiting on my body, I feel rough enough as it is.

Definitely get in touch with them, they can give you an injection that works really quickly. I hope you feel better soon

oh Pavlov you poor thing ,sounds awful !

Yes yes to calling out of hours .Apart from the lovely ,fast acting injection perhaps they'll prescribe Buccastem ,which just dissolves near your gum and helps with vomiting . You can now buy it without prescription as well .

Tho if you have a stomach bug I have a feeling that it's thought good to allow vomiting to get it out of your system .

Try and sip some rehydration drink - I like oRS from chemists or you can easily make your own rehydrate.org/faq/how-to-prepare-ors.htm

wishing you better

oh you poor thing
when I broke my back I had to stop the painkillers because they made me so ill so it could be that rather than a bug

I think it's perfectly fine to ask OOH for anti sickness, (they were offered to me but I had stomach cramps and diarrhea as well, frankly with a broken back it was easier to just be in pain).

do rehydrate! Hope you get it sorted. Can you get there thought? I wasn't allowed to move for a few weeks so it was also different in that way.

Another vote for rehydrate - I find this really helps stabilise my body and shortens how long I vomit for if I have a stomach bug.
