You should have an out of hours doctors service, I'd talk to them to be honest.

Lisalisa my dd is going through similar but not as poorly, what i would say is this, amoxycillin isn't always effective in the treatment of UTI's as it is a broad spectrum antibiotic, once her results come back it is very likely they will prescribe another type.

I would take he rto a&e to speak to someone sooner rather than later. UTI's can very quickly cause kidney problems in young children if they aren't responding to treatment fast enough.

Hope she's ok x

yes - take her to see someone asap. when dd had uti at 3, NHS Direct said to treat as emergency as can travel so easily to kidneys. call them pronto for advice - it's obvious the amoxycillin hasn't worked.

Do you have an out-of-hours doctor you could go to lisa? Rather that than a long wait in A&E.

My dd suffered recurrent UTI's and we were usually given trimethoprim. It depends on the bug but maybe amoxycillin hasn't killed it.

she should be ok till morning if youve got plenty of calpol. my ds aged 2 had a uti which was very nasty. i didnt realise that the high temp and awful cabbagy smell was anything other than his normal sickness (gets ill a lot). the temp subsided a bit after a couple of days and then i felt awful when it came back with a vengence like your little ones has. took him to docs next day and the first lot of ABs werent the right ones, so he had to have another lot which finally cleared it.

praps the abs arent the right ones

everyones telling you to go to A&E. i think ive got so used to ds being poorly that if i went there everytime i might as well camp out there! go if it will make you feel better but i think until the results come back they wont be able to prescribe the correct abs

I'd take her to A&E, you can take her to a private out of hours walk in centre too, we're under Bupa and they do centres all over england, if your not a member it will cost you £145 they're open all hours. NHS Direct are a bit crap i'v found, Bupa do a direct helpline too where you speak to a nurse straight away, their number is 0845 6013216. Hope this helps

Would personally take her to A+E if has had 5 days of ABs and temperature still high and pain unresolved.Tbh would expect an antibiotic such as trimethoprim to be used for a UTI but am not a paed nurse and do not know your dds medical history, but it is nearly a week with no improvement,so would suggest A+E visit.HTH and she is better soon

take her to casualty, you will not have to wait long with a child with asuspected uti and fever, amoycillin is a broad spectrum anti biotic which means it works on most kind of infections but is not always strong enough to knock some on the head, in hospital they will probably screen the urine to discover what type of infection it is and prescibe an appropriate anti biotic

Brandy,am an adult nurse and am sure A+e would rather treat a sick child appropriately than risk them getting further complications from an unresolved UTI.
