10 yr old dd with persistent tummy-ache

My 10 yr old has just come back half way through guide camp with a tummyache that has so far lasted 2 days. She has had them quite often in the past couple of years but they have normally only lasted a few hours - enough to have her crying and be sent home from school though.
It hurts her round her tummy button - too high for starting her period surely (she hasn't started yet but my mum started at 8 and I was about 10-12).
I put it down to excitement initially but now she's home she still has it - couldn't get to sleep till 11pm. She says she's not worried about anything - problems at school last year but much better this year.
I took her to the doctor once but he just gave her something for a tummy bug.
Anyone any ideas, please???

Hi bob - my dd started her periods in April just after her 11th birthday. She used to have the odd niggle here and there too - does your dd have any other signs?

Does your dd have a infection, Bobs, such as a cold or sore throat? My dd has been hospitalised twice with symptoms such as you describe, due to a similarity with appendicitis. But both times it turned out to be swollen glands in her stomach causing the pain. The first time she needed antibiotics, as she had a strep infection, second time, it was 'just' a virus and went away after a few days. Hope your dd is better soon.

I am always suspicious of tummy aches - I wonder if it is psychologically. Was she homesick and wanted to come home?

She had pains before she left - 3 days now. No other symptoms such as sore throat, constipation etc. The pains are round her tummy button - surely too high for period pains or apendix??
I think we'll pay a visit to the doctor tomorrow.
thanks for your suggestions

sorry robinw - forgot this thread!!
Took her to the doc and he gave her some icky medicine - better 2-3 days later. I think it was some sort of colitis (stomach knotting up sort of thing). He did a urine test - negative.
Thanks for asking
