Airbag chest injury - is this normal?

I had a crash yesterday and the impact from the airbag has left me with chest pain, right on my breastbone, which is restricting my movement. It feels like I've been kicked in the chest, constantly mildly painful, and gets much worse if I lean or lift.
I'm otherwise fine (saw a GP same day), but I'm wondering if this is normal, and how long it'll take to heal?
I drove round the block today to test out the car I've been lent and found it painful to turn, so prob going to avoid driving until my chest feels better.
Also finding it hard to pick up the kids etc, so really want to know how long I'll be incapacitated!
Many thanks Flowers

unfortunately it's normal.
the forces in a crash are enormous!
will take a week or two to heal.
I had impressive seatbelt marks on shoulder, chest and hip. ouch.

Flowers CakeBrew I had a crash 5 weeks ago low speed, but air bags deployed, Chest pain lasted about a week and twinges every now and then since. Nose and check bones only felt normal in the last week and neck and back still twinges if I do too much lifting. I was given a load of xrays to check injuries and a massive amount of painkillers but tbh paracetomol is the best.
Hope you feel better soon

Thanks Blue!
I don't have any seatbelt marks oddly, didn't even feel it during the crash.
All the other injuries are coming to light now a days passed, bruises popping up like daisies!

Special I had no seat belt injuries either but if you were not jerked against it there will not be any. This was the proof my insurance used to show I was not speedingand my dashcam I was expecting some but instead got very badly bruised arms

Thanks canyou - luckily the airbag only hit my nose not my full face, so it's just a little swollen and tender but not bad.
I hope you're all better soon, it sounds v sore.

Aha! Interesting. I hit someone at approx 25mph and am not sure how it happened, DH suspects a crash for cash scenario, whereas I think it was my error as I glanced away for a second, turned back and BANG.

I was merging onto a motorway from a 50 km I looked right over my shoulder, a car crossed 3 lanes from my left no indication I bounced off him and into the back of another car . But I apparently braked and changed gears as it happpened I have no memory so thank goodness for the dashcam and a witness.
Leave insurance deal with it and concentrate on yourself and feeling better.
