Slapped cheek ?

tis going round at pre school, stupid me in a flurry of tidying threw away info sheet been through bin can't find it. Anyway ds has red cheek can someone give me a quick low down, will he be ill, do I need to keep him at home that sort of thing? and does it hurt? cheers

have had a quick google but can't find out whether I can sedn him to preschool or not? I know I'm stupid for chucking away the letter but can anyone tell me pretty please

one of my children had it, temperatue, got over it quickly that is all i can remember i am afraid

Slapped check syndrome is parvovirus. Pregnant women and the immuno suppressed can be badly affected. Info is non specific about staying at home cos people are no longer infectious when the rash has developped.

Not much help really, I would give pre school a ring and ask their policy

I had this when I was 22. It left me with crippling arthritis for two years. Far better to get it when you're little - but it can cause problems with unborn babies and unlucky adults (as I was). It's pretty rare to have after effects as badly as I did though, so don't worry about your DS!

Hunker I have a friend who has crippling athrtits as a result of an infection, thinking perhaps I shouldn't visit on thursday as arranged what do you think?

dd had this before christmas and gp gave me an info sheet stating that the child is not infectious once the rash has come out.

I would say keep him off - I had it as a child and it really wasn't nice. I ended up with pain in my legs (similar to growing pains) and couldn't bear weight. One of the scariest things in my life (although that bit is rare for children - it was just as I had a weakness in my knees).

The rash can feel hot and itchy - damp flannels help ease it.
