Pre op appt without seeing Dr first?

I've had this lump on my back for about 7/8 years. My dad thought it was a cyst (when he was alive, he was a Dr) and said it would probably be fine and go down. Anyway that was a few years ago. I've left it as it's never bothered me but it's grown to the point where it has become very visible even through clothes.
It's approx. 3 inch x 3 inch and sticks out quite a bit. It's been growing closer towards my spine.
It doesn't have any punctum? has never been infected or burst, so I'm thinking probably not a cyst but more like a lipoma?

Anyway, I wanted the Dr to check it as my mum keeps on at me to get it checked but the receptionist put me straight in for a pre op which is tomorrow.
I was wondering why I haven't seen a Dr first though and if I'll see one tomorrow?
