My lovely niece is 5 and my sister is desperately worried about her. Doctors haven't been much help. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing these symptoms?

Once a month she wakes up in the morning feeling sick and sweating. She doesn't want to eat and feels 'heavy' and tired. She spends the day in pain on the sofa and then usually by evening time she's fine again.

No different in bowel movements,no connection to certain foods. Sometimes she is actually sick.

anxiety? lactose intolerant, kidney problems. Best go back to GP and see someone else and get full tests.

She's had blood tests which all came back clear, they tested for diabetes too. It's so strange how it comes and goes-by the time my sis gets an appointment with the doctor she's fine again. Last time it happened she took her to out of hours and they diagnosed a stomach bug, which it clearly isn't. They did rule out her appendix though.

Abdominal migraine?

If nothing on blood tests then I would say anxiety or an allergy.

I'd go for abdominal migraine as well. I used to have cyclic vomiting syndrome which is related, and every 5 weeks I'd wake up feeling a very particular way, then vomit all day feeling really tired and weird, then it would stop. Eventually it turned into classical migraine so at least now I'm only sick once, and not at all if I get the drugs in at the right time. CVS was always something I woke up with so no chance to head it off, but I think you can take medication every day for it
