Just after some words of encouragement/advice really.
I suffer from quite horrific insomnia. have done for quite a while now. Have done EVERYTHING I can to try and beat it but nothing has worked. I'm talking nights where I don't sleep for a single minute and it is wrecking my life. I went to see my GP who put me on Temazepam a couple of months ago and it has been brilliant but she wont prescribe me anymore after the latest script because I will 'become addicted'. I am not supposed to take them every night but the nights I don't have them I don't sleep. I was awake until 4.30am last night and just feel like crying. GP is going to refer me for CBT but am wondering what happens if that does not work. I am getting so depressed at the thought of it all. What else can a GP do? Has anyone had CBT that has successfully treated their insomnia?

Do you not sleep because you're worrying about things?

Not at all IIjkk. This is what my GP assumed but it really isn't the case. I have done sleep hygiene, music, meditation, reading, herbal remedies etc etc.... I have even changed my mattress and re-done the bedroom to try and create a really calming, relaxed sleeping environment. I feel like a bloody freak.
I dont understand why my GP is going to take me off the tablets knowing full well I will go back to night after night of sleeplessness....... how is it any different to treating other medical conditions that reply on medication... just feel so down about it all

Don't see why CBT would help, then!! Sounds like a chemical imbalance. Sorry there's nothing more helpful I can say.

I wonder if you could try different vitamin supplements. As long as you stay in safe levels, they can't hurt, & they might help.

I saw this thread yesterday and then forgot to reply!

What about asking your GP to put you on a very low dose of amitriptyline just to see if it helps? At a low dose it doesn't work as an antidepressant but should help you sleep.

Alternatively, while melatonin isn't sold OTC here it is sold elsewhere & readily available online. Might be worth a try!

Or low dose dosulepin. That sorted my pnd induced insomnia. It's awful when you can't sleep.
I have found that the This Works deep sleep products help me too, alongside earplugs and eyemask.
Good luck
