Cramps during orgasm? PCOS?

Does anyone else get a strong tightening in their lower abdomen during and shortly after an orgasm?

This is new for me and has started alongside lots of other gynae niggles for which I am waiting on a blood test for PCOS.

I wondered if it was connected?

Could be so many things TBH I had this with my adenomyosis. If your blood tests don't give any answers I would push for an ultrasound as your next step. Hope you get some answers and treatment soon it's grim to get to the stage of dreading orgasms, they're supposed to be fun!

Hi, I've experienced this quite a few times over the last couple of years (worse on one side rather than both and it's sometimes excruciating Sad). I also thought I was heading towards the menopause but blood tests say otherwise). Recently had an ultrasound which showed a polyp and a fibroid, so now waiting for a gynae referral. No idea if these can cause the pain but guess I'll find out soon! You have my sympathies OP.

This is normal. Look up what happens to the body during orgams- the uterus contracts quite strongly.

pollyperky pain during sex is not normal, yes the contractions are quite strong but it's not supposed to hurt. I second pp saying push for ultrasound op, you shouldn't have to put up with this, it's not normal and your health care professionals should be investigating to see what can be done about it, wishing you all the best of luck x

Yes but it's not painful at all and I've always had this. Just a contraction. However if it's new for you worth mentioning at your appointment I'd say.

You say it's a new thing- could you be pregnant?

littlejolee Maybe we are talking about 2 different types of pain? The OP isn't having 'pain during sex' as such - which can be a sign of endo or other problems- she's having a 'tightening' feeling on orgasm. Totally different. I get pain in my bum / colon sometimes after orgasm and have researched this online and it's supposedly normal as are uterine contractions.

It's different and stronger than normal orgasm contractions. It's a sort of tugging sensation that feels like your lower stomach is tearing.

I have had an ultrasound recently which showed no problems other than possible PCOS which is why I wondered if it was related

Definitely not pregnant. I have had a CS but that was 3 years ago and this is much more recent.

Thanks for the replies

I've had this problem before.

But my would also be accompanied by bleeding. And this wasn't just from penetrative sex, it would be any form of orgasm.

It felt like the worst period pains in the world.

I had all sorts of examinations but no diagnosis, went away after a few months thankfully. How long has this been happening?

It's not likely to be PCOS, this is usually a painless condition and does not affect orgasms. What other gynae niggles have you had?

I had this and it went away as soon as I had my appendix removed

Agree with pp saying unlikely to be pcos but could be endo depending on what other niggles you say you have

I think it's actually worse with solo orgasms than with penatrative sex. It's been happening for about 6 months.

The other niggles I've had are my periods have become more irregular (not awful but ranging from 3-6 weeks whereas they've always been regular before), heavier periods with more clotting, ovulation pain that lasts all day instead of the short sharp one minute pain it used to be, dryness and sore during sex. Pains in the lower abdominal region that come and go.

I've also gained weight, my hair is thinning, I'm anxious & depressed... I actually started to wonder about menopause due to occasional night sweats too but I am 27!

Interesting about the appendix as it is more on the right hand side and I have had a strange intermittent pain in that region for months.

I did too. I had chronic appendicitis small niggling pain on right then eventually I started to have sharp cramps during orgasm. You could feel it coming on and I had to stop. I explained this to my Dr who was baffled. But when I had a laparoscopy they removed the appendix and the niggling pain and painful orgasms dissapeared. I would mention this to your Dr or ask if you could have investigational surgery if this don't get better and give them permission to remove your appendix even if it's not swollen. All my issues went away.

Hi I stumbled upon your feed after researching this topic. I am experiencing the exact same thing and was wondering if you were able to find out what the cause was?
