General Anaesthetic - feeling down

I had a general anasthetic on Monday for a staightforward, quick op. Came home Monday evening, felt OK yesterday but today feel so down, tearful, tired and also really fed up with family. OH was supposed to be here today but got the offer of playing in a sporting tournament. Son was supposed to come home from uni on Monday eve to keep me company yesterday but he forgot. My mum forgot all about it. Feeling worthless and unloved - please tell me this is the GA and I'll feel chipper again tomorrow?

It is pretty common after a GA, I definitely remember feeling that way too, and it took two or three days to shift.

Yep, a very common (but not often discussed) side effect of a GA. just be lovely to yourself till it is out of your system

Thanks both - glad it's normal. Going to put myself back to bed for a few hours I think.

I had very similar when I had a GA last month.

I also had it on a Monday and felt great that evening. By the end of Tuesday I was feeling a bit emotionally wobbly then had absolutely crushing sadness and anxiety on the Wednesday. It was horrible but thankfully brief, I started picking up on the Thursday and was back to normal by the following Monday.

I've had a fair few GAs and have never had that reaction before so it took me completely by surprise.

Have some Flowers, Cake and a very un-Mumsnetty hug from me.

Last time I had one I burst into tears everytime a nurse came in my room. They assured me it's very normal.

Bed is a good idea.

Thanks everyone - I slept all afternoon and feel a bit better now. Also DS had arrived home while I was asleep and cleaned the kitchen and made a meal for everyone, bless him.

Oh poor you! Glad you are feeling a bit better now. Get as much rest as you can and drink lots of water.

Also chocolate is well know to aid recuperation Smile
