Okay – I've never had thrush before, but I think I have it now. Itchiness, little bit of white discharge, no smell or pain on peeing etc.

I've bought Canesten but everything's very insistent about if you've never had thrush before you need to see a GP first. But with the double bank holiday it will probably be at least a week until I'd get an appointment and I'd rather not wait that long to start treating. So would it be okay to just use it? I'm not pregnant.

The discharge was less today than yesterday, so maybe the itching will also clear up on its own? Or maybe I could just use the cream to treat the itching. I don't know! I always thought I was a lucky sort who was never going to get it…

The recommendation to see your GP if you've never had it before is more to make sure that you're treating the right infection, than because the medicine is harmful.
I'd give it a go with the over-counter cream and if no better then see your GP next week. I'd probably make an appointment now; you could always cancel if no longer needed.
