Anyone else had a sore throat for ages??

Had a cold, cough and sore throat about 3 weeks ago. Cough and cold went after about a week but I've still got the sore throat. It's not too bad in the morning but gets painful in the evenings. Only thing that helps is ibuprofen. It's one of those ones where your throat feels swollen, as does the very back of my tongue (beyond where I can see in the mirror) . Spoke to the Dr on the phone as I couldn't get an apptmnt who suggested I get an otc throat-numbing spray rather than keep popping tabs and try it for a couple of days. Is this just a virus or something that's lingering? Really getting on my nerves now - when it's painful it hurts to swallow and move my tongue.

Could be bacterial tonsilitis? Can you see spots on the tonsils when shining mob phone torch light into mouth? I reckon worth actually showing them to a doc....

mild salt water solution might help if you can gargle with that - helped me - felt like i had a sore throat for about a month on and off earlier in the year

Thank you for your replies. Can't see anything sore or spotty at the back of my throat. The soreness seems to be beyond where I can see. Will try the salt water although I have been trying Corsodyl. Incidentally I've got no swollen glands at all - does that seem odd?

Yes I've been ill for 4 weeks
Antibiotics stopped it for 5 days but it came back
The sore throat was the worst part especially at night , that's almost gone now. I also had earache, cough, swollen glands , cold and a chest infection. Can't wait to feel properly better again
Get well soon

Hi Bin. Sounds rubbish - hope you're feeling better soon. I've got no cold, cough, temp - nothing like that. ... Could it be some other kind of infection I've got? Like thrush???

Ok so after almost 4 weeks, the sore throat has cleared up on its own before I even got a chance to make a Dr's apptmnt. Which is good. But I do feel like an idiot/hypochondriac. Thanks for all your comments though.

I had the same thing. Really painful sore throat that lasted about 3 weeks and was so painful to swallow I was spitting out saliva rather than swallowing it. It went eventually but never had anything like it before.
