Assume UTI but could dow it some advice

Have been rather rundown lately after a manic few weeks and have get really grotty this week. Y'day woke up to what seemed like cystitis - Ive only had it once before but this was similar - really needed the loo - not too painful but then needed it over and over again. Drank loads of water and also so Boots powders however by end of day wee didn't hurt but horrifically smelly.

Had a bad night of needing the loo loads and have woken up this morning feeling as if I have been hit by a truck. Every bone, joint and bit of skin, back etc aches. Don't have a temperature but just feel so grotty...

Is this all the same thing - do I need anti=B's not sure how I can function at work tomorrow but equally joys of walk-in clinic are not appealing!

What is the collective wisdom in treating this or do I need to get something a bit more heavy handed with it

It does sound like an infection.

You can get 3 days of ABs- Trimethoprim- from Lloyds chemists by completing a questionnaire online and picking up the drugs from your local chemist. Can't do a link but the main Lloyds site should show you are.

You really need to get your urine dip tested and sent to a lab. The wrong antibiotics won't touch it and it may develop into a kidney infection. If your back hurts you must get an out of hours appointment today.

DD used to get UTIs and if untreated they can have very serious implications.

A sample dropped at the drs will take 2-3 days to be analysed and meanwhile the infection will be present.
Most GPs will give 3 days of ABs, THEN test a sample after the course is completed and if it shows that a broad spectrum AB like Trimeth hasn't worked, they will prescribe another one.

p.s- a dipstick will not show which type of infection is there, it will only show 'an infection' and if someone is passing water often due to the infection, samples sometimes look clear (no bacteria) anyway. A walk in clinic is not going to get a sample analysed there and then.
So a hospital is likely to offer the standard ABs and say go back to your GP if it doesn't clear up.

Bun my elderly dad gets a lot of urine infections(sometimes with no symptoms except mental confusion). Even when admitted to hospital, they give Trimethoprim as a start, while they wait for analysis, and he's never needed another stronger.
