Hi, I was just wandering whether anybody has had the copper coil fitted? I had it fitted 6 weeks ago now as I was on Cerelle previously which was causing me to have mood swings and I went to see my GP as I was bleeding all of the time.. who suggested having the coil fit. I have been spotting inbetween periods non stop? Is this normal with the copper coil? I just wanted to hear of other mums experiences as I feel a little worried and cannot get in to see my GP until next week. X

Everyone has different experiences with the coil, but yes spotting is considered normal. They usually tell you that it can take 6 months for your body to adjust to the coil.
I have posted on a thread elsewhere about my experiences so far (I need to go and update it).
I had no spotting, and a pretty straightforward time until the month my period arrived early and lasted for 15 days.
Since then I've had no issues. Slightly heavier flow, couple of days longer. Noticeable cramping around ovulation (I have always had this, it is a little more painful now) and cramping the couple of days before my period starts (that is new, I never had that before).

I hope this reassures you, but it is always worth seeing your GP or Family Planning Clinic if you have concerns.

Currently 22 weeks pregnant with Copper Coil still in place. Threads have wrapped around the coil so they can't get it out.
I had/have random bleeding throughout each month.

I had spotting in the beginning and it settled down after a 2-3 months. Had no problems at all after that and kept it in for 5 years.

I had spotting the first few weeks IIRC then periods became v regular, worth speaking to your gp if you're concerned though.

ShockShockShock

That must have been quite a shock, MsMommie, I hope you're ok now.

OP - I haven't had any spotting with my coil insertions, just heavier periods.

IPTP, I'm ok, thank you x
I only found out at 18weeks, but hey, she was meant to be I guess!
Quite excited now.
Apparently I wasn't a suitable candidate for the coil anyway as I have history I have a history of preterm deliveries due to cervical incompetence.
My cervix is stupid lol

MsMommie - Glad all is well and would agree that she's clearly meant to be here Smile
