treatment for throat ulcers

Tips on treatments for ulcers on the tonsil? ? Is it an early sign of tonsillitis or need antibiotics?
I'm fine in myself apart from a chesty cough but as an athsmatic I'm used to this, it's been hard to swallow for over a week I've been taking pain killers and eating ice cubes to try ease it bit it's getting worse not better. Had a look tonight with a torch although my tonsils aren't swollen they're red and what looks like a couple of ulcers on them.
I'm using difflam spray, throat lozenges and ibuprofen none of which is making a difference.
Please help
