Has dd got flu

Forgive me but I am a terrible panicker when it comes to my dc's being ill. Dd17 came home yesterday feeling unwell, headache and general aches all over her body and her temperature was 101.8. She is an awful patient BTW and really fusses and complains when she is ill, but she was crying, as she felt so rotten.

I have been alternating paracetemol and ibuprofen. Her temp did come down to 97 last night and she felt better but has gone up again this morning to nearly 102 and she vomited a little bit earlier.


I've been giving her plenty of liquids as well and she did have a bit to eat last night.

Does this sound OK? How long should I give it before I seek doctors advice? Is it normal for the temp to fluctuate so much? I really don't want to start googling either as I will terrify myself.

She's coughing and I want to believe its just a cold but the high temperature has got me worried. Dd is also very upset as she has an exam on Thursday .

It'll run its course. You only worry if she has stiff neck and is sensitive to light. If paracetamol makes her temporarily ok just go with it and fluids. go to Drs if cough lasts more than 3 weeks or if fever does not go away in a few days. Our kids get flu vsccinations but not sure if older kids do.

Thanks. I'm a bit pathetic I know. She must be ill though as she doesn't even want to look at her phone! Dh says take her to A & E .
